When I’m travelling, I make a point of asking people who have already been there about their opinions on the must-see’s and do’s. I was told about Bhaktapur by a businessman on my flight to Kathmandu. Located about an hour’s drive in the east corner of the Kathmandu Valley, this little city was one of my favorite places in Nepal.
I was meant to do a day trip to other areas in the same day but I was so taken by the area that I asked my guide if we could spend the day in Bhaktapur instead. It has this peaceful aura and beauty about it. Surrounded by mountains, it provides the picture-perfect view of the Himalayas. The town is also filled with pagodas, religious shrines, monuments, palaces and temples – the perfect place for those who need some time to unwind and appreciate the deeper meaning of life before setting off once more. As one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, visiting this beautiful area is definitely a must.
What destinations have you been to on the recommendation of others? How did it work out?
