With obvious parallels to the summertime tradition of European music festivals, the Lake of Stars Festival in Malawi nonetheless retains a strong African identity. With a strong and diverse musical line-up, the Lake of Stars festival brings international attention to one of Africa’s poorer countries, and unifies a worldwide audience with performances from some of the world’s biggest international acts.
Over 60 acts will perform at the Lake of Stars festival this year, including UK chart-toppers Foals, African pop stars Freshlyground, along with local stars Black Missionaries, Lucius Banda, Maskal, Skeffa Chimoto and a DJ set from Vampire Weekend’s Chris Baio.
Held on the shores of Lake Malawi, the festival gives attendees a chance to kick back under the African sun, enjoy an international line-up and soak up the spirit of a festival that grows in stature each year. The festival brings much-needed tourism to the region and has raised funds for organisations like UNICEF, Build Malawi, Malawi Health Care Support and now the Microloan Foundation.
