Commemorating ANZAC Day 2012 with London Legacy

With ANZAC Day just around the corner, many people’s thoughts turn to remembering those who have fallen in service to their country, especially at Gallipoli during the First World War. Read on for details about how to win tickets to the TNT ANZAC Legacy Ball at Australia House, London.

After landing at Gallipoli on the 25th of April 1915, the ANZAC forces met fierce resistance from the Turkish army and suffered heavy losses. The campaign dragged on for around 8 months, eventually resulting in an evacuation by the Allied forces. ANZAC Day is commemorated by Australia and New Zealand on the 25th of April every year, honouring those who fell at Gallipoli during World War 1, but also those who have died in wars since. ANZAC Day became a proud day for the young nations of Australia and New Zealand in the early 20th Century; it’s an event that has shaped the two nations’ identities ever since.

Legacy is closely tied to the story of the ANZACs. An organisation dedicated to caring for the families of deceased and incapacitated war veterans, Legacy is a voluntary organisation supported by veterans, servicemen and women and volunteers, and now its services extend to dependants of today’s Australian Defence Force. On Friday April 20th, London Legacy will host the TNT ANZAC Gallipoli Legacy Ball – a black tie event held at Australia House, London, which raises funds for the good work that Legacy does.

On The Go Tours is proud to be associated with Legacy, and this year we’re giving away tickets to the Legacy Ball. Two people will win tickets for themselves and four of their mates – all you have to do is answer an easy question on our Facebook page!
