Pushkar Camel Fair

It is that time of year again in Pushkar. When the sleepy desert town erupts into a frenzy of activity as hundreds of thousands of cattle traders, pilgrims, merchants and travellers descend upon its sands – livestock in tow, for the annual Pushkar Camel Fair. Tents are raised and colourful market stalls appear as cattle are watered and camels preened in preparation for five days of serious buying and selling.  This week’s video pick offers a sneak peek at what this exciting festival is all about, from camel races and beauty pageants to hot air balloon rides and bathing in ghats, all set against the hubbub of this desert landscape.
