BA announces new route to Sri Lanka

20th Aug 2012

Additional British Airways flights from London Gatwick have been announced with the airline unveiling plans to fly to Sri Lanka from 2013.

BA plans to fly to the capital city of Colombo via Male in the Maldives, with the first Boeing 777 taking off on March 31 next year.

The service will have three classes for passengers to choose from, with those seeking high-end luxury having the option of fully-flat beds in BA's exclusive Club World.

Sri Lanka attracts significant numbers of tourists from the UK, with only neighbouring India sending more holidaymakers to the Indian Ocean island nation.

Tourists are attracted by Sri Lanka's wide range of holiday options - from beach breaks to spa retreats and the vibrant natural and cultural life that thrives on the island. Holidaymakers can also take a closer look at exotic local wildlife while on Sri Lankan holidays.

Silla Maizey, the airline's Gatwick managing director, said: "This is such an exciting new route for us."
