25th Sep 2012

Brazil and Chelsea defender David Luiz has said the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympic Games will be "special" for his homeland.

The 25-year-old star, who plays his club football for Chelsea, said he hopes his nation can host an equally successful Olympic football tournament in 2016 as the one he played in at the London Games this year.

Speaking to the Chelsea website, Luiz said experiencing the Olympics in London gave him "a great feeling".

He added: "It's a competition where all the world comes to one place, all the countries try to win the gold medal.

'It was amazing and now the feeling is even better because the next World Cup and the next Olympics are in Brazil."

The defender said a lot of hard work is going on behind the scenes in Brazil at the moment with people getting ready to give the world "a special occasion".
