Britons head to Africa in search of sun

2nd Jul 2012

Research has shown that many Britons are planning to travel to South Africa this summer to get away from the miserable weather and enjoy some time in the sun.

As well as South Africa, many people will take holidays in places with guaranteed sunshine such as Florida and the Caribbean, the Virgin Atlantic research showed.

The poll of 2,000 travellers showed people will spend an average of £1,470 to fly to their sun-blessed destination.

On top of that, holidaymakers will spend an average of £470 on food during their trip.

Jamie Doy, a spokesperson for Virgin Atlantic, said: "Given the amount of rain we've had in the past few weeks, it's not surprising how much money people will spend to get some guaranteed summer sunshine.

"Holidaymakers who would have previously opted for cheaper destinations are trading up because they simply can't stand this weather."
