Celine Dion to sing at China Spring Festival Gala

Singer Celine Dion is preparing to take to the stage for a major television gala marking Chinese Lunar New Year.

The international star has been unveiled as a main act for the China Central Television (CCTV) Spring Festival Gala on February 9, the day Chinese New Year's Eve falls this year.

Her appearance at the event was confirmed through a statement by CCTV following mounting industry buzz.

During the celebration Dion will perform her blockbuster hit My Heart Will Go On, from the film Titanic.

She will also join Chinese folk diva Song Zuying to perform a special duet version of the classic Chinese song Jasmine Flower.

The CCTV statement said: "Celine Dion, one of the best selling female singers in the world, whose career has spanned from the 1990s up to now, will join CCTV's Spring Festival Gala."

The singer said: "I love the Chinese people and their culture and I'm looking forward to going back there, and celebrating the Chinese New Year with all of them!"

She will be joined at the gala by Chinese pop acts including Sun Nan, Yang Kun, Jane Zhang, SHE, Leehom Wang, Na Ying and folk singers Song Zuying.

And other major international names will also appear at local TV network galas.

China's Liaoning Province Television's Spring Festival Gala will feature the Backstreet Boys, while Shanghai's Dragon TV's Spring Festival Gala will include Gangnam Style singer Psy and Taiwanese supermodel Lin Chi-ling.
