China film festival gets under way

31st Jul 2012

A major documentary film festival has got under way in China's Qinghai province.

The 2nd China World Mountain Documentary Festival opened on July 28 and has attracted 545 documentaries from 36 countries, including the US, the UK, France, Japan and Australia.

Taking place in the north-west of the country in Delingha county, the theme of this year's event is "Document and Witness the Visual Image of the Human's Mountain World".

Britons currently taking trekking holidays in the region might be tempted to stop off and take the chance to see one of the films and become fully submerged in the history and culture of mountainous areas.

The documentary makers "use their keen eyes to record the growing and dying mountain beauty," Diji Majia said.

Following on from the opening ceremony, the festival also features various other special events such as a summit forum and the presentation of the international documentary films award.
