Famous Rio hotel celebrates milestone

8th Jan 2013

One of the most famous landmarks to line the Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro is celebrating its 90th birthday this month - the Copacabana Palace.

To mark the occasion, the legendary hotel in Brazil - which has accommodated many famous faces from Marilyn Monroe to Nelson Mandela - has announced the completion of a US$20-million renovation.

Rooms at the elegant Italian establishment have been redesigned, the bathrooms restructured and the renowned Cipriani Restaurant upgraded.

Heritage features of the Art Deco hotspot have been renewed, maintaining the tradition of the iconic white-fronted hotel.

Diners at the venue can now experience the new table du chef, where they can try the new menu on offer straight from the place of its creation, the kitchen.

In addition, the lobby's original ceiling, which was rediscovered during the overhaul, has been restored to its former glory for all visitors to see.
