Game Of Thrones showcases beauty of Morocco‏

23rd May 2013

An American fantasy television show is proving that Morocco is now the dream destination of film-makers and sun-seekers on specialist tours.

Expect Game Of Thrones to add to the North African country's tourist numbers by showcasing its beautiful scenery.

Most of the scenes are filmed on location, meaning that fans can visit the places and experience the spectacular scenery for themselves.

Morocco's port town of Essaouira was a backdrop for the journey taken by Daenerys Targaryen.

Show bosses picked the site for its colours and its timeless open market.

While in Essaouira, holidaymakers can participate in an organised boat trip or fishing trips.

Fancy something more exotic? The best place to go to experience camel riding is the Maison du Chameau.

This is a distant guest house that is home to eight meharis (white Sudanese racing camels), offering week-long camel-riding specialist tours or shorter trips.

Ouarzazate, also known as the "Door of the Desert", stars as the desert landscape used in the show.

Here, it's worth visiting cultural areas such as UNESCO World Heritage Site Ait Benhaddou, one of the best preserved Kasbahs.
