Gangnam Style makes UK number one

The single Gangnam Style from rapper Psy has given South Korea its first number one hit in the UK.

Last week the record charted at number three after breaking into the top 40 two weeks ago with a position at number 37.

The song has climbed consistently since breaking the top 40 barrier.

The accompanying video to the song has on YouTube become the most "liked" ever and in just two months has been watched 253 million times.

Recently Psy, who is famous throughout South Korea for his previous records, passed on his dance tips to Britney Spears on Ellen, the US television programme.

Gangnam Style is a reference to the Gangnam district of Seoul, where people are noted for being hip and trendy. The rapper drew comparison between the area and Beverly Hills in California.
