Gangnam Style rapper's South Korea concert

12th Oct 2012

Thousands of fans flocked to a free concert in South Korea to watch YouTube phenomenon Psy perform his worldwide hit Gangnam Style.

The two-hour gig, attended by 80,000 fans, was staged at the Seoul Plaza in the South Korean capital, just five miles from Gangnam district, the area parodied in the rapper's famous song.

Gulping from a bottle of rice liquor the bare-chested South Korean rapper told the audience - made up of locals and visitors - "this is for Korea!" before launching into his high energy show.

The rapper had pledged to play the free concert if Gangnam Style reached the top of the US charts. And, although it only got to number two, he went ahead with the gig, his agency saying it was being staged "to return the encouragement domestic fans have been giving to Psy".

The concert marked Psy's return to South Korea following a host of TV appearances on American TV shows following the success of Gangnam Style, which has had more than 420 million views on YouTube.
