Hype builds ahead of Brazil new year festival

27th Dec 2012

Brazil's Revellion new year celebrations are set to attract locals and holidaymakers alike to one of the world's most well-known parties.

More than a dozen acts across four stages along with the renowned sixteen-minute fireworks display at midnight will entertain an expected two million party-goers heading to Rio.

Riotur, the Rio Tourism Board, announced the main line-up for the celebrations taking place on Copacabana Beach.

The tourism board is incorporating the theme of 'more reasons to smile' in to its marketing campaign for the event, which is also a message inspired by the city being awarded Unesco World Heritage status earlier in 2012.

The Palco Principal, or the main stage, will see popular Rio de Janeiro natives DJ Mam and DJ Marcelinho da Lua take to the stage. The winner of The Voice Brazil, Diogo Nogueira, will also be performing.

The Claro Stage located in front of the Rua Santa Clara will delight the revellers with a range of acts, with the third stage situated at Leme and the fourth in front of Rua Xavier da Silveira.

With the 36 audio towers spaced along the beach the crowds will never be too far from the music

The annual party on the four kilometre beach costs the city R$17 million and whatever the weather the event is expected to continue until 3am
