India celebrates World Tourism Day

3rd Oct 2012

India's World Tourism Day has been celebrating the rich variety of cultural events the country has to offer as well as the characteristically warm welcome given to tourists.

Held in Delhi, the festival showcased India's booming tourism industry with an exciting programme of special events.

"We really had a great time and the foreign tourists enjoyed it too," Sudhir Sobti, spokesperson for Delhi Tourism, told the Deccan Herald.

"Delhi is now at par with other world class cities [and offers] world class facilities to tourists."

As one of the cultural capitals of the world and a highlight of India, Delhi offers an impressive list of attractions and activities for holidaymakers to enjoy.

World Tourism Day was held over several of the city's most popular attractions, including the 20-acre Garden of Five Senses and the Red Fort.
