Indian state named favourite upcoming travel destination

22nd Jan 2013

Tourism chiefs in Arunachal Pradesh are celebrating after the Indian state claimed a top tourism award.

Readers of Outlook Traveller magazine and its website voted the state their Favourite Upcoming Destination in 2012.

The Ipsos poll reflected consumer choice in 18 categories of travel and tourism including airlines, hotels, and holiday destinations.

New Delhi's tourism department will receive the travel magazine award on January 24.

News of the award win was relayed to the state's tourism secretary Sonam Chombay by tourism parliamentary secretary P D Sona.

It's thought the award will further raise the profile of the Indian state among adventurous holidaymakers looking for off-the-beaten-track group tours.

Sona said the survey "is an authoritative benchmark of consumer preferences in travel and tourism".
