Jo'burg's Jumbo-sized joy boosts South Africa

24th Jul 2013

South Africa-bound tourists will benefit from Johannesburg becoming the third destination to which British Airways will fly the world's largest passenger plane.

BA will start its new Airbus A380 superjumbo services from London to Jo'burg around next February.

There will be three Johannesburg services a week for tourists on city breaks to start with, rising to six a week from March 10 well in advance of the family holidays season.

Johannesburg boasts a multitude of museums, galleries and great shopping for holidaymakers, and the world-famous Sun City resort is only two hours' drive away.

BA has already said it will launch its A380 flights with a five-times-a-week route to Los Angeles, starting on September 24.

It will raise this to a double-daily service from April 10, 2014. Daily flights to Hong Kong will start on October 22.

Prices for the 469-passenger-capacity plane will start at £872 return.
