Liverpool celebrates Year of the Snake

22nd Feb 2013

Liverpool's China Pearl is holding a two day festival to celebrate the Year of the Snake, in a follow-up to last year's sold-out show for 2012's Year of the Dragon.

Joining forces with the Unity, arts organisation China Pearl will host the Chinese Arts Festival on March 1-2 at the Hope Place Theatre with this year's show Lady White Snake. The show will incorporate authentic music and dance.

Free Chinese cultural taster sessions will be on offer to visitors, including dance, martial arts, calligraphy and arts and crafts. The sessions will be on March 2 with Chinese tea tasting prior to the show on March 1.

Fenfen Huang, China Pearl's director, said: "Lady White Snake is an infamous story passed on through generations from the city of Hangzhou, often referred to as the Chinese Paris and capital of my province Zhejiang.

"We'll tell the story through dance, animation and poetry. It will be an exciting production, which a Chinese audience will find refreshing while a British audience will fall under its spell too."
