Machu Picchu model to be built in London

20th Jun 2012

The East Piazza of Covent Garden market will be awash with Peruvian sounds and sights as part of an event displaying a mini Machu Picchu - made out of Lego.

Prom Peru, the Peruvian tourist board, will visit the capital to unveil the smaller version of the historical Inca site, which will be recreated using Lego's brightly-coloured plastic bricks. TV presenter and adventurer Ben Fogle has been given the privileged task of placing the final piece on to the toy construction.

At the event on June 26, the tourist board will give away 13,000 bars of "Willie's Cacao" chocolate, as seen on the programme called Willie's Wonky Chocolate Factory broadcast on Channel 4. With each bar, receivers will be given a tag with data on how to take part in a competition to win a trip to the South American nation, as organised by Kuoni.

People at the event - which will only be held for one day - will be entertained with music from Peru's local regions, as well as dancers in traditional clothes. The country is well known for its culture and multitude of stunning landscapes, ranging from Machu Picchu to the green rainforests of the Amazon.
