Mozambique's all-year-round sunshine and sandy white coasts have helped get it voted the second best tourist destination of 2013.
Travel website Globe Spots awarded Mozambique this accolade in its top 10 list of best tourist destinations based on its users' opinions on what's happening in the global tourism sector.
The south-east African country, which nestles by the Indian Ocean, attracts scuba divers, sailors, surfers and kayakers on specialist tours from around the world with its shimmering clear waters which house abundant marine life.
Its legendary beach resorts number Ibo Island Lodge, Hotel Polana Maputo and Dugong Beach Lodge.
Cultural sites include the Museum of Natural History and Maputo Cathedral, while the Maputo Botanical Gardens never cease to enchant.
For the more adventurous, biking, volleyball and basketball are other activities this exciting, exotic country can offer, and its breathtaking terrain also makes it a great favourite with tourists on trekking holidays.
Mozambique is described as an ideal destination "for those that will travel anywhere," and who are "tired" of tours and safaris in neighbouring countries.
The list's authors wrote: "Mozambique is not a country that can be explored without effort. Thankfully, long journeys are made easier by the laid back attitude and good humour of the Mozambicans, who are one of the good reasons to visit the country."
Portugal came top in the poll.
