Mumbai prepares for sporting event

13th Nov 2012

Sports fans with a passion for travel may want to think about combining their two loves and head to India early next year for the Mumbai Games.

The event, which takes place in January, will see a number of sports played including basketball, tennis, athletics and football.

It is aimed at allowing more people to become involved in sport in India, and those who live and work in Mumbai can sign up to take part in any sport they wish to take part in.

While the Mumbai Games will be a unique occasion to bring the local community together, the carnival atmosphere should appeal to those looking to travel to the city next year.

Pullela Gophichand, brand ambassador for the Mumbai Games, said: "What India needs most is a culture of playing sports that goes beyond excellence and becomes truly inclusive."

He added that he was keen to see the Mumbai Games become an annual event and urged as many people as possible to sign up and compete.
