Rio de Janeiro has been named the ultimate destination in which to party non-stop over the Christmas period.
Celebrating in Brazil's party capital came out as one of the top choices when travel professionals were asked to name their 10 favourite ways to spend Christmas.
Mexico was another destination of choice in the World Travel Awards (WTA) poll, with travel professionals saying whale watching off Cabo San Lucas is the ultimate Christmas choice for nature lovers.
Enjoying some winter sun in the Maldives and fine dining in Peru were other notable choices of how to spend the Christmas break.
And it would seem anyone planning tailor made holidays in Mexico, Brazil or other hot destinations over the festive season might just be the envy of their friends - as Christmas at home can actually turn out to be a rather stressful experience.
WTA group vice president Kevin Taylor said: "Christmas should be the most relaxing and memorable day of the year, but staying at home can often end up an anti-climax."
