Santana hails concert crowd at Delhi

1st Nov 2012

Rock legend Carlos Santana has thanked the crowd in Delhi after playing his maiden concert in India, and declared: "We are very honoured to be here."

The guitarist, who played with his band for two hours at the Galgotia Institute in front of thousands of fans, said he felt blessed to be there, adding: "Coming to India is like connecting to the light."

He regaled the crowd with classics such as Maria Maria, Black Magic Woman, A Love Supreme and E Papa Re at the event organised by Formula One Rocks with Vladivar. The master guitarist said: "It is a blessing to come to New Delhi and feel connected with your heart. We are all one family. We want to invite all the governments of the world to invest in peace and not in brutality."

Carlos' wife Cindy Blackman Santana took the drummer's seat and performed alongside her husband at one point.

At a well-policed event, Santana was backed by the north-east Indian band Soulmates.
