South Africa is the dream destination for holidaymakers - and that's official.
The land so loved by nature lovers on group tours beat six other sought-after countries to land the prestigious No.1 spot in the competition run by travel social networking community WAYN.
South Africa's 15,300 votes out of a total 78,000 cast saw off its nearest challenger, Brazil, closely followed by Dubai.
India, Fiji, Turkey and Indonesia were the others shortlisted.
South Africa's foreign visitor numbers have mushroomed threefold to 13.5 million visitors, including 9.2 million tourists - and it's not difficult to see why.
South Africa's major tourist traps include luxurious Durban beaches, capital Cape Town with its incredible Table Mountain backdrop, the Winelands region and Kruger National Park, home to the "Big Five", including lions and elephants.
Thulani Nzima, Chief Executive Officer, South African Tourism, is "delighted" with the accolade.
Nzima added: "We are privileged to live in an incredible country, a land of spectacular wildlife, awe-inspiring adventure and unique heritage and culture. It is home to warm, welcoming people, eager to share it with travellers from around the world."
The nominated destinations, both cities and countries, were picked through a mixture of market research data and tracking user engagement on WAYN.com.
