South Korea gears up for jazz extravaganza

16th May 2012

South Korea is the place to be if you're a jazz fan this weekend with a host of big names performing at one of the first festivals of a busy summer.

The 2012 Seoul Jazz Festival is taking place on Saturday and Sunday in the Olympic Park in Bangi-dong and names such as Earth, Wind and Fire and George Benson are sure to attract big crowds.

The South Korean music festival has grown substantially since its inaugural event five years ago and jazz guitarist Al Di Meola and R&B singer Eric Benet will also be performing alongside more than a dozen local acts on three separate stages.

This year will be the sixth Seoul Jazz Festival put on by promoter Private Curve and it remains the only large-scale musical event in the area catering to genres other than rock, pop and dance music, providing a break from the mainstream in South Korea's capital.
