Top award for Indian coastal beach

19th Mar 2013

India is the proud owner of the best beach in the Pacific after Goa reclaimed its status as a top destination.

The coastal state scooped the prestigious Pacific Area Travel Writers Association (PATWA) award for the Best Beach Destination at the ITB Berlin tourism convention.

The beach was recognised for working to improve on safety and attractiveness, while praise was given for its regulation of beach shacks and hard work at targeting tourists.

Accepting the award, tourism minister Dilip Parulekar said it cemented the state's status as one of the finest destinations in the world, and hoped it would lead to even more people visiting Goa's beaches - in particular one fine strip of sand, Palolem - which features in the Hollywood hit 'The Bourne Supremacy'.

Featuring at the south of the state, Palolem has become famous for its magnificent sunsets.
