Tourism boost for South African region

10th Jan 2013

A pair of businesses in the Dinokeng area of South Africa have received prestigious certification from Fair Trade In Tourism South Africa (FTTSA).

Kwagga's Pride and Kwalata Game Ranch received the ringing endorsement in recognition of fair and responsible tourism practice.

It is part of a campaign by Gauteng Tourism Authority (GTA) called "Travel With A Conscience" that is aimed at positioning Dinokeng as a responsible tourist destination.

The region includes the three hubs of Dinokeng Game Reserve, Roodeplaat Dam and Cullinan, which are all popular attractions with tourists.

Certification is based on criteria including fair wages and working conditions, fair distribution of benefits, ethical business practice and respect for human rights, culture and the environment.

The two businesses are expected to be the first in a long line in Dinokeng who are working towards FTTSA-certification, something that should help enhance the area as a tourist destination in South Africa.
