Two off-the-beaten-track holiday destinations are proving popular with families looking for a hint of adventure in their travels this Easter.
Home to 10% of the world's butterfly population, Costa Rica, in Central America, is a country rich in rainforest and varied animal life.
Highlights of this small and accessible country include exploring a rainforest canopy, guided hikes, volcano climbing, a boat trip to Tortuguero National Park, where turtles lay eggs each year, and meeting local groups such as the Maleku tribe.
There are also adrenaline-fuelled activities such as white-water rafting and zip wire flying.
Sri Lanka is another popular destination. Nicknamed Buddha's Island, Sri Lanka has an amazing history of early Buddhism, lush green forests and jungle, cool highlands, picturesque temples, exciting food and friendly people.
High on people's itineraries are the caves and temple at Dambulla, a cycle ride through local villages, climbing the rock at Sigiriya, a city tour of Kandy, a game drive in the Uda Walawe NP, a visit to a tea plantation and relaxing on the island's many on the beaches.
