A spectacular elephant race will be among some of Vietnam's biggest festivals and events coming under one umbrella to mark National Tourism Year in 2014.

As many as 45 events will mark the High Mountains and Thick Forests of the Central Highlands theme, according to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

These will feature a cultural week to celebrate the UNESCO Vietnam Heritage Festival, a festival of brocade arts, a Central Highlands fashion show and a festival of Central Highlands wooden statues.

There will also be an international gong festival and a food festival.

Tourism in Lam Dong province will be promoted by a festival marking the 120th anniversary of the founding of Da Lat City and the fifth edition of the Da Lat Flower Festival.

Sporting events will feature an elephant race, boat race, and many folk games will also be staged throughout next year.

National Tourism Year 2014 is an international event that introduces visitors to the natural trekking holidays landscape and people of Vietnam's Central Highlands region, with a concentration on Lam Dong.
