Tykes turn into intrepid adventurers

8th Jan 2013

Spain and the Balearic Islands might still the most popular destinations with Yorkshire travellers but research shows that holidaymakers from the region are now seeking out more unusual destinations.

To cater to these changing tastes, Jet2.com has added Russia, Morocco and Iceland to its schedules for people jetting off from Leeds Bradford Airport.

Discovery weekends to St Petersburg in Russia, Marrakesh in Morocco and Reykjavik in Iceland are now proving very popular with travellers from Yorkshire.

In fact, the airline's annual What's Hot report, compiling booking data and a poll of 1,000 consumers about their holiday plans in 2013, revealed 10% more people are planning a city break over the next 12 months.

Its research also highlighted Croatia as a destination that is growing in popularity, while the Greek islands of Zante, Crete and Rhodes look set to be firm favourites for 2013.

Montenegro is another new destination that has been added to Jet2.com's portfolio, as the airline aims to carry on from a bumper festive period at Leeds Bradford Airport that saw 65,000 passengers flying out over Christmas and new year.
