One of Vietnam's most treasured and spectacular underground tourist attractions has reached new heights.

Its stunning UNESCO World Heritage Site, Phong Nha Cave in the central province of Quang Binh, has won a glowing recommendation for visiting holidaymakers on group tours and private journeys alike.

It has been certificated as one of world's best destinations by leading tourism website TripAdvisor.

The 7,729-metre-long (8 miles) cave is host to 14 grottoes besides a 13,969-metre (8.6 miles) underground river.

The cave is rated 4.5 of 5 points for successful tourism sites in terms of professionalism, service style, and spectacular natural sights, said Le Thanh Loi, director of Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park.

He said that the TripAdvisor's certificate is proof of the success of the co-ordinated efforts of the national park management to promote local tourism, attraction and investment.

Phong Nha cave has recently been upgraded with a lighting system to enhance safety for visitors.
