YouTube mash-up honours Korean sensation Psy

20th Dec 2012

South Korean YouTube sensation Psy - famed for his Gangnam Style video - has been honoured in a new mash-up video on the site.

To mark a year of viral hits the video-sharing site has created a video of its two biggest hitters in 2012 - Psy and Canadian pop star Carly Rae Jepsen who found global fame with Call Me Maybe.

The Rewind YouTube Style 2012 video notched up close to 16 million views just a day after it was uploaded, offering up a series of visual gags appealing to regular YouTube users.

South Korean star Psy surged to stardom thanks to his Gangnam Style sensation, which went viral a month after its August release. The song parodied the lifestyle in Seoul's affluent Gangnam district, and has put South Korea on the radar for holidaymakers the world over.

Astonishingly, since then the video has been viewed almost a billion times, moving ahead of Justin Bieber's Baby as the most watched video on YouTube to date.

According to YouTube, which is owned by Google, more than four billion hours of video content is viewed every month on the site.
