Here's a chance to take a break of a different kind. Travelling to Talang Talang Island in Borneo you will have the opportunity to work directly with the forestry wardens in conserving the majestic sea turtle of the region, you can even adopt a turtle and be updated on its process once you have returned home.
day 1 - Monday - Pick-up from your hotel or airport and transfer to Sematan Jetty, located about 50 km from Kuching City, to catch the boat transfer to Talang Talang Island. After settling in to your accommodation, a welcome brief is held at 2pm. Here the Park Warden will provide an overview of the program, its objectives and your responsibilities as a volunteer. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure for you to swim or relax before dinner at 7pm and a technical briefing, focusing on the actual work you will be doing with the turtles and Forestry Wardens. At 9pm ‘Turtle Watch’ begins. Under supervision, you will patrol the beach to locate turtle landings and monitoring sea turtle nesting activities.
day 2 -Breakfast is at 8am with the remainder of the morning free before lunch at 12pm. ‘Beach Work’ commences at approximately 4pm and continues through until dinner. Involving conservation activities, under supervision from park wardens, work involved may include the tagging and measuring of turtles. After dinner at 7pm, this evening, commencing at 9pm is a focus on Hatchery Management which may involve transferring eggs to the hatchery, releasing hatchlings and data recording.
day 3 - Breakfast is at 8am with most of the morning at leisure. Before lunch at 12pm you will be asked to participate in some data recording before snorkelling and hatchery management this afternoon. Dinner is once again at 7pm before the evening turtles activities commence – the chance to adopt your very own turtle!
day 4 - After breakfast this morning, a program de-brief before departing at 10am to return to the mainland, where we transfer you to the airport or hotel
