Meet your guide at the Huangpi Nan Road metro station and depart on foot for the Xintiandi area of Shanghai. Start with a taste of notable soup dumplings and learn from your guide about their construction, including the savory meat filling and flavorful broth.

Afterward, its a 15-minute walk to Yunnan Road, where you'll sit down alongside local residents catching up with their friends at three traditional restaurants and one dessert shop. On the way, notice French lane apartments of the French Concession give way to Chinese stone houses, called shikumen, and observe daily life among the street vendors, office workers, and mahjong players.

Lu was already waiting at the exit of the train station when I arrived and it turned out that I was the only person on the tour that afternoon. Probably because it was really hot outside but it made for a great personal tour through the streets of Shanghai. Lu inquired about what all I have already tried in Shanghai to ensure that we don't try the same things on the tour and keep it fresh and interesting. Over the next 3 and a half hours, Lu walked me from restaurant to restaurant while giving me a historical view of the neighborhood as well as the place we were visiting. We had Chinese pancakes, spent a significant amount of time at a tea shop, had the best noodles and pork I have ever had, tasted some soup dumplings and ended at a dessert shop where we also sampled local Chinese beer. Overall, it was a fun, informative and friendly tour that I highly recommend.

Jim showed me a kind of secret Shanghai – Shanghai in which I'd be the one to go most likely did not dare. This tour gave me deeper feeling of the city and several favourite places to eat.

We had a great time with Jimmy. He brought us places that I would have never been to or would have considered. Authentic places and food. Got a real taste of China. I eat everything, my wife and son are vegetarians. Jimmy went out of his way for them to have food available. We had a small group so easy to walk around and get to places. Felt very secure as Jimmy knew all the places. Well worth it as we would have had nothing like what Jimmy prepared for us.

Highly recommend this tour. Jim was fantastic and really made the tour special. We ate so much food and it was all delicious. Definitely do this if you’re looking to step into the life of a local.

Jimmy was an amazing guide, excellent English and very knowledgeable. Great variety of snacks, from local ice-cream to Shanghai's amazing dumplings. Definitely a tour to do

We were completely thrilled with this tour. Our guide made sure we had so much food that we could barely move afterwards. All of it was excellent and from local establishments. Definitely give this one a shot, but come hungry.

Best experience, guide was very experienced in the local area and took us to off the beaten track to areas where we were greeted by the locals and experienced Shanghai foods in abundance

My friend and I had an amazing experience with this food tour in Central Shanghai. Our host, Draco Shi, was very thoughtful with the route, selection of locations, and the group's desires. He was very knowledgeable not only about the food from a culinary standpoint, but also from a historical perspective which was very enriching. Whether you are a foodie or not, this tour is highly recommended!

We had an awesome guide and ate SO MUCH FOOD! it was not only a great way to sample the food culture, but also to see a good part of the city by foot. Bring napkins/wet-wipes and an umbrella, in case it rains. I highly recommend this tour if you are an adventurous eater and love food.

We ate some amazing food that ordinarily we would never have ordered. The egg pancake stuffed with beef was especially good... oooh I could eat one of those right now 😋

Our guide Jim was excellent. He took us to places we wood have not thought to go, and they were wonderful. He explained everything clearly so we understood the relevance of certain foods and why they were eaten.

I really cannot believe that any tour could provide more authenticity of the local food scene than this remarkable look at the real Shanghai. Lilac our tour guide aside from her perfect English was a joy to behold and helpful in every way possible in explaining where we were going and what foods we were going to have. We started a a local noodle joint to beer tasting in the hip French Concession and on to a multi course meal with a tea ceremony finishing in a soup kitchen that no person other than a local would know about (somehow Anthony Bourdain had found it in his Shanghai travel show). If you are looking for sophisticated food this is not your tour but if you want to experience authentic local food I cannot recommend this tour highly enough. We felt totally safe walking the streets at night and Lilac made sure to find us transportation back to the hotel. A fantastic evening and a very full stomach will remain as highlight in my memories.

My husband I were very interested in tasting food in the real Shanghai, not just in restaurants so we decided to book this tour. It was an amazing experience! Jim our guide and a native of Shanghai, was able to tailor the food to our tastes we are adventurous eaters while at the same time explaining to us the food history of Shanghai. Everything we had at our 5 stops was delicious. We started at a craft brewery, then made our way to a resto where we enjoyed noodles, pork and tofu. The highlight for us was a tea shop where the owner prepared several teas and homemade foods. Our final stop was another craft brewery the first in Shanghai. Jim was knowledgeable, and passionate about food. It was great to spend several hours just chatting and learning from him. We highly recommend this tour.

It was very enjoyable tour! We tasted local foods, beer, so many kinds of Chinese tea and so on and everything was perfect. Tour is not only for eating foods but also good for understanding Chinese culture and seeing local life. If you want to experience local things, I highly recommend this tour.

A great experience. A great way to familiarise yourself with the Shanghai street food. From this tour we had the confidence to try other foods. Jim Wang, our tour guide was great, friendly and engaging. Would highly recommend the experience. Vic and Gemma. Melbourne. Australia.

Jim is so knowledgeable about Shanghai and the food scene. The highlight was a couple of craft beer stops and homemade Shanghai soup dumplings. A great way to experience Shanghai.

Jim, the owner and guide was wonderful. We had local brewed beer in the French Concession, yummy noodles with meat and fish, then off to a Tea Shop and sampled several kinds, then to a scallion pancake maker these were the best, and finally to a dumpling shop with two different kinds and a wash down with a local liquor. Jim is very knowledgeable and makes his tour very enjoyable as we also took walks through Li Longs, the back alleys where the locals live and work. Highly recommend this tour to everyone. We took the 1P tour.

Great tour from a highly knowledgeable host. Jim was very friendly and a delight. Authentic local noodle house was great, as was tea shop, dumpling restaurant, and other stops all delicious. This tour is perfect for travellers looking to try authentic local cuisine. You don't need to be very adventurous, all the food is great, but if you're a picky eater worried about whats in this/how much salt/fat etc a food tour isn't for you! And if you can't use chopsticks maybe bring your own fork :P My only feedback was a wish that the craft beer we had to start the tour was bigger. Would recommend!

This was probably the best tour we did while In Shanghai. We did it on our first day in the city and it was the perfect opening to our trip. Jim is super awesome and very knowledgeable. He has spent the time to plan the walk perfectly with the placement of things you need exactly when you need them! The food places are all places you will never find on your own and are all delicious. Jim changes it up so I don't want to say where we went because you may not go to the exact same places, but wherever you go I guarantee you will thoroughly enjoy the experience and hanging out with Jim.

Jim and Laura were excellent tour guides. They are very knowledgeable about food and culture in Shanghai which really helped me appreciate the brief time I spent there. They showed me around the local neighbourhoods in the former French Concession and Laoximeng area. I was very lucky that it was only me in the tour so it turned out to be a private one! We tried different foods and my top favourites were the Xiao long bao pork soup dumplings, fried dough dipped in freshly boiled soy milk. We also went to the tea ceremony and tried different types of tea, that was really a good experience and gave me a great appreciation of how tea is prepared in the traditional way. Jim also got me to try this super delicious ice cream which wasn't part of the food tour but he went out of his way to have me try it which was indeed a bonus ! I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Shanghai for the first time. Thanks Jim and Laura. You guys are the best foodie guides.

This tour was quite literally the highlight of our whole China trip. Jim was an amazing tour guide with fluent English. We started in the French Concession sipping craft beer to walking around traditional Shanghai trying local food vendors. There was tea tasting, dumplings, vendor food and a surprise Chinese ice-cream at the end. Jim informed us about the history and the culture of Shanghai whilst answering all our questions. We had a small group of only 4 from various countries. You may think a food tour would be a debatable thing to do in a foreign country, but all the places we were taken to were full of locals and had fresh food, cooked in front of you. The back streets were amazing and we could have taken Jim on the rest of our 17 day stay as a professional tour guide. Just amazing! If you have one day in Shanghai, this is the tour I would recommend!!
