This morning, we explore the heart of Beijing, China's pulsating capital, including the vast Tiananmen Square where Chairman Mao’s tomb lies and various monuments to the people are located. Dominating the city centre is the Forbidden City, a centre of power for five centuries and seat of the emperors. Entering through the Gate of Heavenly Peace, we enjoy a guided tour of this old city within a city. Later we take an exciting rickshaw ride through the Hutongs of Beijing, weaving through old back lanes, traditional courtyards and compact houses, gaining a fascinating snapshot of the city’s traditional way of life. Tonight, we enjoy a delicious Peking Duck Welcome Dinner at a recommended city restaurant. Overnight - Beijing
Don some comfortable shoes, today as we walk a section of the famous Great Wall. Zig zagging some 6000 kilometres, ducking and weaving through mountain peaks and lush terrain, climbing the Great Wall is one of those ‘must do’ experiences! Afterward we visit a cloisonne workshop, viewing the unique art of decorating copper with colourful enamel. Tonight, an eye boggling Chinese acrobatic performance. Swinging ropes, juggling hoops and human pyramids are just a few tricks these show stoppers pull out. Overnight - Beijing
Beijing - Xi’an. Free morning, why not opt to take a walk through the local street market or head to Wangfujing Street for an alternative breakfast of stir fried scorpions or silk worms on a skewer? Later we visit the beautiful Emperor’s Summer Palace and drive past the 2008 Olympic Stadium and Aquatics Centre. Free time is offered in the cavernous Silk Alley Market, before travelling by express soft sleeper train to Datong. Overnight - Sleeper Train
You arrive into Datong early giving you a whole day to explore the area. Take a guided sightseeing walk around the Yungang Grottoes (some of the first and grandest of Buddhist grottoes containing intricately carved buddhas of all shapes and sizes), Huayan Temple, Nine Dragon Wall and Shanua Temple. The Nine Dragon Wall is a 600-year-old Nine-Dragon Screen made up of glazed tiles, the 50-m ceramic wall depicts a fire breathing dragon. Overnight - Datong
Today you head over to the Hanging Temple and the Wood Pagoda for more sightseeing. The Hanging Temple is a sight to behold and is a structure that seriously defies gravity. Arrive Xi'an, transfer to hotel. Your morning in Xi'an starts with a visit to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda before a leisurely bike ride around the City Wall, which dates from the Ming Dynasty. You then head to the local Muslim Quarter and the Great Mosque. Overnight - Xi'an
Xi'an - Chengdu. Home to the world famous Terracotta Warriors, which were discovered in 1974 by local farmers who were digging for a well. These soldiers are over 2200 years old and no two warriors are the same - it is believed they are a self portrait of the individual soldiers. After an informative look around this battle ready army you'll visit local crafts people who make clay warrior replicas which you can purchase. This evening you head for the station and board another overnight sleeper train - this time to Chengdu - land of the Giant Pandas! Overnight - Sleeper Train
Awaken this morning in Chengdu - capital of Sichuan province - famed for its outstanding natural beauty, fiery cuisine and China’s first, largest and best known Panda research and breeding centre. On arrival into the station you'll be transferred to your hotel. Afterwards, visit the Wuhou Memorial Temple, the Tomb of Wang Jian and Jinli Lu street - part of the old city where an open air theatre and Sichuan Opera are performed in the evening you can opt to book and attend a performance locally if you like. Chengdu - Huanglong - Jiuzhaigou. This morning fly to Jiuzhaigou - a region that for centuries has been inhabited by various Tibetan and Qiang people. Tour the Huanglong Monastery - built during the reign of Ming Emperor Hongwu, it is now a place of worship for the local Tibetan, Han, Qiang and Hui people, all of which have different religious beliefs. Afterwards enjoy a relaxing stroll by the region’s famed calcium travertines. Resembling a terraced field, the travertines flow gently into a series of multi-coloured, mineral rich ponds beneath. Onward travel to Jiuzhaigou. Overnight – Jiuzhaigou
Full day sightseeing in the fairyland, Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area. The whole scenic resort actually is a narrow valley. Because of its inconvenience of the traffic, it is a peaceful place without any noise from the outside world, and it is the home of nine Tibetan villages. It is said that there is no other place as peaceful as in Jiuzhaigou all over the world. Using both boardwalks and the shuttle buses, you will visit the major attrations in the three valleys - Shuzheng Valley, Rize Valley and Zechawa Valley. Spend 4-5 hours in these valleys. You will visit the Long Lake which is 3150 at sea level, appreciate the spectacular scene in five-colored lake, and soaked in the Nuorilang Water Fall. Overnight Jiuzhaigou.
Jiuzhaigou - Chengdu. Morning flight returning to Chengdu. An hour’s drive to the north west leads you to the ancient city of Dujiangyan. It was here, in 256 BC that provincial governer Li Bing set up the Dujiangyan Irrigation Scheme. The three part engineering project using a central dam and artificial islands to split the Min River into an inner flow for irrigation and an outer channel for flood control. A spillway directed and regulated the water while an opening carved through the hillside controlled to flow rate. The project was maintained until 2006 when a new dam was created 9km upstream. Tour the dam site, view the Anlan Suspension Bridge and the Dragon Taming Temple. Overnight - Chengdu
Driving to Leshan our morning is spent exploring the Great Buddha, which is carved into the red sandstone face of Lingyun Hill overlooking the treacherous confluence of the Min, Qingyi and Dadu rivers below it. Driving onward take in the views from Emei Shan (Mt Emei). Rising some 300 meters its thick forested slopes set a backdrop for spectacular waterfalls, pristine brooks and numerous Buddhist temples. Arriving at Baoguo, located at the foot of the Mountain, we visit the Temple of Baoguo. Large and serene this impressive temple structure boasts Puxian and Guanyin statues. Spend the remainder of the day exploring this delightful village, easily navigated by foot. Overnight - Baoguo
Baoguo - Chengdu. This morning we travel by cable car to the top of Mt Emei to tour the magnificent Wannian temple. The oldest structure on the mountain, its contents are stunning: three thousand tiny iron Buddhas surround a life sized enamelled bronze sculpture of Bodhisattva Puxian (the protector of the mountain) riding a gilt lotus flower astride his great six tusked white elephant. Weighing over 62 tonnes and standing over 7 metres in height the masterpiece had to be bought to the mountain top in pieces. Returning to Chengdu the remainder of the day is free. Overnight - Chengdu
This morning join your guide who will accompany today. Driving about 30 minutes to one of the famous attractions in Chengdu - Panda Breeding and Research Center, which is home to giant pandas, red (or lesser) pandas, and other endangered species. The giant panda is more active in the early morning and in the late afternoon. In the nursery you will see the highly successful breeding program, among the bamboo groves and shady walkways, and view the pandas at rest or play. There is a panda museum where you can learn more habit about giant pandas and get close touch with them. In the later afternoon, our local guide will escort you to the train station for overnight train to Yichang.
Welcome to Yichang. Today you will enjoy a half day guided sightseeing tour of the Three Gorges Dam Project. This afternoon take the train to Zhangjiajie. Upon Arrival in Zhangjiajie, you will be met by our local representative and the guide and bus transfer to the hotel.
In the morning, visit Tian Men Mountain which is the highest mountain in Zhangjiajie, with a hundred-meter tall natural hole through the mountain, enjoy the exciting glass walk and the longest cable car in the world. In the afternoon, we drive to the scenic area and take a sightseeing on the mountain top of Yellow Stone Village, one of the most picturesque areas of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park.
After breakfast, we will first pay a visit to the Tianzishan Natural Reserve. Waterfalls, bridges, stone forests and caves are found throughout the mountains. Then we will visit the Yuanjiajie, which is famous for the exciting visual angle, and also another great hiking site of the Zhangjiajie Scenic Area. The Enchanting Platform nearby has the best spot from which to view the cloudscape down the 100-metre valley. Afterwards, we will also take a flexible walk along the Golden Whip Stream, which is a poetic stream, with crystal clear water running quietly between strangely-shaped peaks.
Take morning flight to Guangzhou. Met by guide, transfer to Guangzhou East for train to Hongkong. Upon arrival into Hong Kong signals the end of your arrangements with us. END OF ARRANEMENTS.
