Day 2

Exploring Alexandria

Bright and early this morning we drive to the port side city of Alexandria on the Mediterranean Coast. Arriving at the windswept city known for its broad beaches and seafront corniche dotted with sun loungers, amusements and cafes we embark on a guided tour of the Roman catacombs. Heading underground we view the largest known Roman burial site in Egypt, complete with burial chambers, labyrinth alleyways and entertaining rooms for families coming to visit the dead.

From the catacombs we visit Pompey's Pillar, a modest 25m tower, which is all that remains of an ancient column, from the ruined Temple of Serapis. Next stop is the impressive Library of Alexandria (and those who are interested can go inside) before taking a leisurely stroll along the corniche to the Citadel of Qaitbey. We explore this attractive fortress, which was built on the site of the legendary Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, which was destroyed by a powerful earthquake 1323AD.

After hotel check in and time to freshen up we'll head out for a drive along the corniche followed by dinner (included).
Overnight: Alexandria  |  Breakfast, Dinner

Day 3

El Alamein

Today we visit the Commonwealth War Graves of El Alamein. It is here where two extended battles were fought during World War II. The first began on the 1st July 1942 and lasted for 27 days, it ended as a stalemate. After 3 months of holding back the enemy, the Allies launched a second attack which lasted for 13 days. This saw the Allied forces (including British, Australian and New Zealand soldiers) push back the Axis powers for ultimate defeat in Tunisia. Some 13,000 Allied soldiers were killed and 70,000 were wounded in the battle.

Later, we tour the compact El Alamein military museum that acts as a memorial for the battle and houses lots of original war vehicles, weapons, uniforms and records. Displays in the museum detail the complete history of World War II in North Africa from all sides and stands on the site where the actual battle took place. This afternoon we return to Cairo.

I chose the On the Go Tours Alexandria & Ancient Egypt tour package with the Abu Simbel bolt-on and cannot recommend On the Go Tours for Egypt strongly enough. I strongly recommend the bolt-on to Abu Simbel to see the Great Temple of Ramesses II and the Small Temple of Nefertari. This was definitely one of the highlights of the trip and well worth the early wakeup. I would also recommend the felucca over the cruise.

Walid was my guide for the two-day Alexandria and El Alamein portion of the tour, and Momo was my guide for Ancient Egypt. Both guides were incredibly knowledgeable and personable, and I would highly recommend both. Momo was exceptional in turning a group 15 strangers on the first day to a family by the end of the week.

10/10 would recommend to anyone wishing to travel to Egypt.

The tour was excellent and Momo was a fantastic guide. Through humour and role play he taught us the basics about the ancient Gods. After that it was easy to follow. Momo is very passionate about his country and his people and that was very evident every day. The whole tour ran smoothly and I never felt unsafe at any time. I highly recommend On The Go Tours. Thank you Momo. You made it a memorable trip.

From the minute we walked down the arrival stairs of Cairo Airport & saw the extremely efficient Hossam waiting with a smile & an on the Go sign, until he later saw us through the departure gates as we said goodbye to Egypt, the whole experience was awe inspiring and mind blowing. The staff we met were personable, knowledgeable and respectful. From the co-ordinator Amir to the drivers, everyone went out of their way to ensure all people on the tour got what they wanted/needed from their trip to Egypt. As for our Faithful Leader Dino, where do I start! when it comes to History, Dino is an incredibly knowledgeable tour guide. He shared with us all he knew and answered every question with ease. Dino obviously loves Egypt, its history (modern & ancient), its monuments and its people (past & present) and passed this love onto all of us. It sounds cliché' but Dino really did make our trip. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute spent in Egypt and would recommend On the Go and Egypt to anyone looking for a remarkable holiday. Egypt had long been a dream destination for me, a must do, a bucket list item and it did not disappoint. Wow, what incredible time we had.

Thanks to the relaxed structure of the tour group it was surprisingly sad to say farewell when after 12 days the time came to board that flight back to Oz. Thanks to Dino and On the Go Tours my Egyptian dream was realised. Thank you for sharing your incredible country!

I have always wanted to visit Egypt, and just decided one day I needed to go, despite many friends and family concerns as to why I wanted to go. All their concerns and worries were immediately negated the moment I arrived in Cairo.

From the moment I arrived to the time that I left, The On the Go team made me feel safe and welcome.

There is so much I could say about the tour, but to sum up my feelings was that it was AWESOME!! I experienced and saw so much. Experiences that I will keep with me for a lifetime. What made it all that much better, was the other people in the tour group, many of which I still keep in contact with, including our tour Guide, Haytham.

Haytham's knowledge and charismatic character shinned throughout the tour. I was lucky enough to have a night in Alexandria with my tour guide and he was able to show me some real life Egyptian culture outside the tourist attractions. Being able to have this experience and having the cultural education to learn more about the real Egypt was an amazing. We don't get to see that through the media.

Egypt is an Amazing Place, and I will have to go back one day.

On the Go Tours provided a warm and friendly environment to travel in. Every need and want was looked after by the guides and company reps.

I would recommend On the Go Tours and Egypt as a Travel Destination

It was a truly wonderful tour I loved everything about it

It was great to be met at the airport and helped though as it was as I left this helped so much so I say thank you once again to those people. I think it was Abdul and George

Our Main guide Dino couldn't have been more helpful or friendly, nothing was too much trouble for him and he was so knowledgeable. It can't be easy to keep so many people happy at the same time.

Our other guide on the cruise ship, Aaram (sorry I think I have the wrong spelling there)

was very good too and so funny. The cruise ship itself was fantastic and the staff were tripping over themselves to attend us. The food and accommodation was top class.

Abdul was on his "L" plates but I'm sure, in time, will do very well on his own

While I say all we saw, the temples ( just kept getting bigger and bigger) the towns, all that was Egypton was great and guides couldn't have been better.

I think I also need to say

That the Abu Simbel part of the tour should be included in the price and not an add on, as nobody would go to Egypt and not want to go to Abu Simbel

Also the Oasis Hotel was the worst of a great bunch, the location, with no shop nearby and the feeling you had nowhere to go but stay in your hotel room

To one staff member I seemed too much of a inconvenience when I had to send my chicken back as it was uncooked. My plate was taken away with no words then brought back 10 minutes late, plate just dropped down in front of me again no words while he shuffled off.

The chicken had been thrown in the deep fryer and was now dead. Hence it was left on the plate. This is the same staff member that took half and hour to actually acknowledge that we wanted to order the first night we were there

These are only little things and it did not take away the fact that I had a fantastic holiday due to the fellow travellers, wonderful guides and "On the go Tours"

THANK YOU I WILL RETURN

What a fabulous adventure I had, even though I had an injured leg. I loved it all except a few things, like the overnight train, we can only hope Egypt will get a nice new or near new train for this journey.

As for our guide, Amon Zuzu well he was far more than a guide, he cared for my medical needs for my injured leg, as well as everything else that any of us required. but best of all was sharing his passion for Egypt and all its wonders. He had a great sense of fun and always kept us entertained.

I can only rate the company, tour & the tour guide as EXCELLENT +++++++++++

This tour was incredible! I'd been dreaming of going to Egypt since I was a little girl and yet this trip still managed to go beyond my expectations. Despite the negative imagery in the media I felt completely safe. The people were all so kind and welcoming!

The scheduling of the trip was well done, giving us down time to relax while also filling the days with great sites and activities. I was looking forward to seeing the pyramids and Abu Simbel, but I was surprised to find that the felucca was actually my favourite part of the tour! The food was consistently delicious (and I'm usually a picky eater), while the crew men were a lot of fun and made us feel very comfortable. We even ended up belly dancing under the stars with Nubian music while they played the drums! As we docked for the second night, all of us were hoping we could have an extra day on the Nile.

Our guide Alam was brilliant. He was very humorous, while also very professional and knowledgable. I was impressed that he always knew the answer to any question we asked. Alam did an excellent job explaining things clearly and making us feel welcome. He was quite considerate and sincerely checked up on each of us to make sure we were doing well and having a great time. He became a friend to us (literally, since we all added him and each other on facebook afterwards!).

I am already hoping to come back to Egypt in a few years, especially with the new museums that will be opening. From the great size and majesty of the pyramids, to the intricate details of the hieroglyphs in the Valley of the Kings, to the mighty statues for Ramses II and the beautiful intricacies of the mosques. I've been telling everyone within earshot that Egypt is safe, welcoming, beautiful, and unforgettable.

Thank You, On The Go!
