Itinerary

Day 1

Cairo

Saturday. Welcome to Cairo, Egypt's bustling capital. You will be met at Cairo airport and transferred to our start hotel. Spend the rest of the day at leisure.
Overnight: Cairo

Day 2

Pyramids of Giza, Saqqara & Khan el-Khalili Market

After breakfast we have a short Welcome Meeting we travel to the Giza Plateau to visit the legendary Pyramids of Giza, the sole survivors of the ancient Seven Wonders of the World. Known as Cheops, Chephren and Mycerinus the great pyramids were built over 4500 years ago to protect the mummies of the pharaohs and the treasures they took with them to the afterlife. Constructed from over 2.5 million limestone blocks, Cheops is the largest of the great pyramids and it is thought to have taken 100,000 workers more than 20 years to construct. For a real Arabian experience, you can opt to hire a camel for a ride across the sands of Giza.

After exploring the pyramids and the iconic Sphinx we travel on to the necropolis of Saqqara to see Zhoser’s step pyramid - which was constructed by Imhotep, the pharaoh’s chief architect, in 2700 BC and became the template for all future pyramid construction. We complete our day souvenir shopping at the bustling Khan el-Khalili bazaar.
Overnight: Cairo  |  Breakfast

Cairo - Luxor. This morning we visit the famous Egyptian Museum, which is home to an incredible array of Egyptian relics and antiquities including the treasures of King Tutankhamun and his famous solid gold funerary mask. The Valley of the Kings is studded with beautifully decorated tombs, which were carved into the desert rocks to house the regal sarcophagi enclosed mummies of the mighty pharaohs awaiting passage into the after-life, including the famous tomb of King Tutankhamen. Later this afternoon we continue our journey, travelling south to Aswan.

What an incredible adventure and extraordinary experience, with the year-round sunshine even when it is freezing cold, the sensational hospitality, the constant hustle and bustle, incredibly diverse culture and value for money.

Egypt is a tremendously misunderstood destination over brimming with vast potential, an array of excitement, breathtaking contrasts and unbelievable history.

Astounding temples and relics of Egyptian antiquity. From the Pyramids of Giza, still so magnificent thousands of years on from construction, souvenir haggling with the locals at the bustling bazaars, felucca sailing downstream on the magical River Nile, to the beautifully decorated tombs studded in The Valley of the Kings.

We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open.

Thank you On the Go Tours, for the unbelievable hospitality, professionalism, abundant knowledge and conviviality. You made our Egypt experience absolutely phenomenal.

A special thank you to you Mohamed Radwan - best tour guide ever

“Felucca Explorer - An adventure of a lifetime”

The Felucca Explorer tour was a wonderful adventure. My father and I have recently returned from our trip to Egypt and we can highly recommend the tour to the young and old.

Highlights included the Giza pyramid complex, the Great Sphinx of Giza, the Egyptian Museum, Saqqara with the step pyramid, the Valley of the Kings, Abu Simbel temples, Luxor Temple, Karnak Temple Complex, Colossi of Memnon, Philae island with the temple of Isis, the temple of Edfu and many more.

Egypt is a safe country to visit with friendly people who are always willing to assist tourist. Our tour was well organized from the moment we landed in Cairo. The coaches used were air-conditioned and very comfortable. The accommodation was excellent and the group we toured with were great company.

MoMo, our Egyptologist, was an excellent and outstanding tour guide with a passion for his country and its rich history. His knowledge of the different sights we visited and their history was indispensable. He taught us some hieroglyphics and by the end of our tour, we were able to recognize most of the Egyptian gods. By the end of the tour, we had a better understanding of Egypt’s ancient and recent history.

The one-day (two evenings) felucca sailing down the Nile was a highlight on its own. Swimming in the Nile, the tranquility of river, picturesque sunsets and starry nights made for an unforgettable adventure. The overnight train brought back memories from times long gone. It was a befitting way to end our Egyptian adventure.

I can highly recommend this tour.

Had the most fantastic time in Egypt.

You are treated like a VIP as soon as you land, with a rep who will help you bypass any queuing, sort out your visa for you and get you straight into an OnTheGo car to your hotel. It all takes minutes.

Momo is a fantastic tour guide. You are paying for a qualified Egyptologist with an absolute passion for Egypt and its history. You will understand hieroglyphics and recognise every engraved Egyptian God by the end Most helpful are his recommendations on what to buy, what to avoid, how much to pay. Apart from this, he simply goes the extra mile every time he can for you.

The pyramids, Valley of the Kings, Abu Simbel. Who knew Egypt had such wonders in such amazing states of preservation? Prepared to be wowed. If you are taking all the optional excursions (this includes Abu Simbel and Luxor Temple by night) free time can be a little limited.

Take the Felucca ride. Gliding down the river, lounging on the top deck, swimming in the Nile. You will see the most beautiful sunsets and sunrises. The food is surprisingly good. You might even get a candlelight dinner under the stars. Hearing the call to prayer emanating from several towns and villages along the Nile in all directions is a beautiful thing. It is not as cold as the trip notes make it sound at night. No one had a sleeping bag. I bought a nice Egyptian decorated blanket in the market at Cairo for not much which did the trick. There are also spare thick blankets you can rent for a very cheap price.

You will meet fantastic people on this tour and feel like a family by the end!
