Day 4

Petra

Today is dedicated entirely to the remarkable Rose City of Petra. Undoubtedly the jewel in Jordan’s crown, Petra is both a UNESCO-listed archaeological site and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Dating back to the 6th century BC, the city was once a thriving capital, but was lost to the world for centuries until being rediscovered by a swiss explorer in 1812. We access the site’s hidden archaeological treasures via a narrow gorge known as the Siq, where 200-metre-high cliffs give way to reveal the Kazneh, better known as the Treasury. From this building’s magnificent façade, the valley widens to offer an impressive amphitheater, a Roman Colonnaded street, tombs and temples.

We take a guided tour of Petra, after which there is free time to either explore independently or climb to Ad-Deir. Otherwise known as the Monastery, this striking building is reached by hundreds of rock-cut steps and offers incredible views over the Petra Hills.

Tonight, we have an optional excursion back to Petra to revisit the Treasury after dark. Illuminated by thousands of candles, its façade glows a beautiful orange colour and is certain to be one of the most memorable sights of your trip.
Overnight: Petra  |  Breakfast

Day 5

Free time in Petra & 4x4 in Wadi Rum

Petra - Wadi Rum. This morning either enjoy some free time or revisit Petra on an optional hike. Entering via the Al Madras secret road, those hiking can view the Treasury from above and visit the High Place of Sacrifice. Perched on soaring cliffs, this sacrificial point is one of dozens of High Places that were involved in religious ceremonies.

This afternoon we travel to the Wadi Rum desert, a spectacular landscape of epic rock formations and rolling red sand dunes. We board 4x4 jeeps to take an exhilarating ride to our desert camp, where we spend the night. This evening we enjoy some time around the camp fire and a delicious Jordanian dinner, all under a beautiful blanket of stars, before bedding down for the night in permanent tents.
Overnight: Wadi Rum  |  Breakfast, Dinner

Day 6

Dead Sea & Mt Nebo

Wadi Rum - Dead Sea - Mt Nebo - Madaba. This morning consider an early start to watch a breathtaking sunrise over the desert. Following breakfast we leave the Wadi Rum and travel north to reach the famous Dead Sea. Landlocked between Israel and Jordan, this salt lake is the lowest body of water on Earth and reaches more than 400 metres below sea level. It’s also one of the saltiest bodies of water in the world and is well-known for its buoyancy. We spend a leisurely few hours bobbing around on its waters and applying black Dead Sea mud to give our skin an invigorating boost.

Our next stop is Mount Nebo, the site from which Moses is said to have viewed the Promised Land. From this spectacular vantage point we soak up an amazing panorama which includes the Dead Sea, the Jordan River Valley, the Mount of Olives, Jericho and Bethlehem in Israel. Our final night in Jordan is spent in Madaba, an ancient market town famous for its Byzantine-era mosaics and the oldest known map of the Holy Land.
Overnight: Madaba  |  Breakfast

Upon arrival in Cairo our Egypt team will meet you and transfer you to our hotel. Spend the rest of the day at your leisure.

Day 8

Pyramids of Giza, Saqqara & Khan el-Khalili

After breakfast we visit the Giza Plateau to marvel at the oldest and only surviving members of the original Seven Wonders of the World. The legendary Pyramids of Giza are over 4,500 years old, and it’s thought that over 100,000 workers were involved in their construction. Of the three pyramids, Cheops is the largest and contains over 2.5 million limestone blocks, weighing from two to 50 tons. However, it still remains a mystery as to how these were transported. For a real Arabian experience, there is the option of taking a camel ride across the sands on the plateau.

Our next stop is the necropolis of Saqqara, where we find Zhoser’s step pyramid. Dating back to 2700 BC, this pyramid was designed by the pharaoh’s chief architect Imhotep and was the very first pyramid the Egyptians built. We complete our day souvenir shopping at the bustling Khan el-Khalili bazaar.
Overnight: Cairo  |  Breakfast

Day 9

Egyptian Museum

Cairo - Luxor. Our first stop this morning is the famous Egyptian Museum where we enjoy a guided tour of the incredible array of Egyptian relics and antiquities. The museum is home to the treasures of King Tutankhamun, the world's best-known pharaoh, and includes his famous solid gold funerary mask. We then board our coach for the long journey to Luxor in the south of Egypt.

Facing the River Nile, this iconic pair of statues are some 18-metres tall and represent Pharaoh Amenhotep III. From here, we make our way to the colonnaded Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, the longest reigning female pharaoh in Egypt, which rises out of the desert in a series of terraces. We also explore the Valley of the Kings, which is studded with beautifully decorated tombs that held the mummies of mighty pharaohs, including King Tutankhamun.

This afternoon we head to Egypt’s sunniest southern city, Aswan, where we spend a relaxing evening walking along the beautiful river Nile.

UNESCO World Heritage-listed since 1979, the temple features four colossal statues of King Ramses II and is a spectacular example of ancient Egyptian art. We then take a short boat ride to visit the Philae Temple on Agilika Island. Dedicated to the goddess Isis, this was the last classical Egyptian style temple and has attracted pilgrims for thousands of years.

Our afternoon sees us board a Nile Felucca, the traditional sailboat of the region, which will be our home for the next two nights. We spend the rest of the day relaxing and at night sleep out on deck, with a wonderful blanket of stars overhead. The felucca is equipped with mattresses and a mosquito net, however other facilities such as toilets and a shower are located on the private support boat which travels alongside us.
