Continuing our journey we take a boat out to the exquisite island of Ometepe in the middle of Lake Nicaragua - Central America's largest lake, which was once a large ocean bay until it was cut off from the sea by seismic activity. The name of the island means "between two hills" because it is formed by the two volcanic peaks which rise dramatically from the glistening lake. This tranquil island, with it's beautiful beaches and jungles, provides us with an idyllic respite from hustle and bustle of life on the mainland. Choose to simply relax in hammocks, enjoy the spectacular scenery and take a dip in the lake or those feeling adventurous can hire a guide to explore the island, go for volcano hikes or horse ride on the black sand beach.
