Stop At: Iceland, Iceland

Before setting off on the Northern Lights tour, our specialists and guides make a decision of where the best possible chances to see the lights are. That means that there is no fixed location visited, and the destination is selected on a day-to-day basis.

We can say with certainty that the Aurora Borealis is one of the most unique spectacles that life on Earth has to offer. That is why we make every effort to provide an unforgettable Northern Lights experience to our passengers with daily tours, supervised by our expert guides.

After operating Northern Lights hunting tours for many years, we know a thing or two about finding the best possible viewing conditions. Before each tour, we study the weather forecasts to help us decide what the best location that night will be.

If the conditions are right, you may be lucky enough to see the Northern Lights swirling in a wild and carefree dance across the heavens, painting dramatic shapes, colors and patterns on the night sky.

The weather was totally against us, but the tour was well organised, and I saw a glimpse of the lights.

Although unfortunately we did not get to see the lights, the company tried their best. We did not see them the first night so the company booked us in for the following night. Again no lights, but that is nature and not down to the tour guide, they tried their best. We have a 2year open booking so will try again!

Our guide did everything possible for us to see the northern lights and loved the fact that you can go again if you did not see it.

We're not lucky to get to see the auroras the tour guides did there best but we also know that I is a natural fenómeno si es will try next time.

I didn't see the lights but got a free try again ticket. Very good service, good guide too. The lights are the only reason I came to Iceland so it was disappointing not to see them but what can you do.

WE SAW THE LIGHTS !! That was most important, however, a few things could have made the 'trip' a bit better. The LOCATION was really terrible. The lights from the available 'toilets' were intrusive to night vision....what about a 'red bulb' in the future. WE WERE FREEZING and expected to be so, however, a tub of hot chocolate would make this a lot more desirable :-} . The driver was knowledgeable and the driver was great. It would behoove you to pick a different spot. HOWEVER......WE SAW THE LIGHTS SO ALL IS GOOD.

Gray Line is very clear that they don't promise results: the northern lights are a natural phenomenon that can't be totally predicted. They do cancel if conditions are such that it is very unlikely but then make re-booking for the next night very easy. They also offer that you can come back if it is sub-optimal. I think they gal in the downtown office and our guide were just as excited when we actually made a sighting as we were. it was fun but be prepared to be up late. great people!

It was a cold night but the Northern Lights were amazing. We needed to wait for like an hour to see them dance, they change colors, red, purple, green, yellow. Great night. Exellent tour.

After staring at the black sky for an hour we got rewarded with 45 seconds of a sight I’ll never forget. We had perfect weather conditions but remember it’s up to nature if you are gonna see something or not. Expect nothing.

We drove for an hour or so to get out from under the clouds and then there were the stars blanketing the sky. As the sky got darker, the lights started dancing across the sky. At first they were white, then came the vivid green. Everyone oh'd and ah'd. We stayed there for an hour. It was wonderful!

We went twice because we didn't see anything the first time. The guide we had the 2nd time told us to set our android cameras to Pro mode. We actually got pics of the northern lights that time!

We took the Northern Lights tour on January 25, 2019. It was very organized, the bus picked us up on time and we had a very nice driver and tour guide. We did have to wait a couple of hours but just as we were about to give up we saw the lights!!! The guide was great, some of us waited on the bus as it was cold out, they came in and gave updates and let us know when they were fully visible. I would not want to drive in Iceland in the winter, the bus was the way to go!

We were very pleased with our tour and guide! The offer for a free return tour if the lights are not seen is remarkable and noteworthy! Highly recommended!

We booked it in advance, not knowing the weather, first day it was cloudy and the lights were not very visible so we were given the opportunity to re-book for a different day which we did for the next one. It was clear skys, we were waiting a while, but then the NL showed on the sky and it was absolutely amazing.Brilliant

Beautiful clear night to see the Northern Lights. Didn’t have to drive to far out of town. Absolutely stunning! Great tour awesome guide and we even got to see the lights dance. Truly amazing and highly recommend Gray Line Iceland.

While I understand there are no guarantees when searching for the lights ( there are various conditions that have to be present), I booked the tour knowing that if we were not lucky, I would have to go home without seeing them. Fortunately for us, the winds picked up slightly and shifted the clouds. This was a dream come true and looking at the Aurora Borealis, I didn't know whether I should laughter cry with joy. This is a once in a lifetime experience and was the most beautiful site. Booking via Viator made the experience completely stress free.

We really did not know what to expect or what it took to see the Northern Lights. Conditions have to be ideal. We were told the previous 4 nights had been canceled but our tour was on. We were very fortunate to see the lights “dance”. The length of the tour didn’t make sense in my mind.. but 5-6 hours went by quicker than expected. Ours ended up being 6 hours because our guide was kind of enough to stay longer to see if the lights were going to finally to be active and he was right! They came out a little after midnight. Chasing the lights was a once in a lifetime experience. Totally worth the trip. Advice-pack a snack because there are no real food stops and we were starving mid way through.

We saw the lights on a night when there was only a small chance. The tour company has a network of people who help them find the clear night sky with Northern Lights activity.Once we saw the lights, and there was little chance they would return, it would have been better to head home. It was already a late night. Not sure why we hung out for 45 min extra.
