Today is a full day at your leisure to relax and soak up the sun and Goa's Golden Beaches. Goa is located between the Western Ghats and the Arabian Sea. The Portuguese, who claimed Goa as the seat of the Catholic Church in the East in the 1500s, controlled the area until 1961, when India invaded to liberate. The state’s Portuguese past is most apparent in its plazas, cathedrals and architecture. Goa splits neatly into two districts: North and South Goa. Lively North Goa has the state capital, Panaji and the former capital of Old Goa, with its interesting churches and buildings. There are many beaches along North Goa such as Fort Aguada, Candolim, Calangute and Anjuna, famous for its Wednesday flea market.

The ancient Mamallapuram, as Mahabalipuram was formerly known, was a flourishing port town of the Pallava rulers of south India, who chiseled in stone a fabulous "open-air museum" of sculpture. Experts say that there were seven pagodas or temples on the shores of Mahabalipuram. All but one were pillaged by the rapacious sea, though there is little underwater evidence that suggest they ever existed.

Today we continue our journey to Pondicherry. Settled in the early 18th century by the French, Pondicherry on the Bay of Bengal in the state of Tamil Nadu has a Gallic flavour. Relinquished by the French in 1954, the town became the headquarters of the Union Territory of Pondicherry, administering three other former French enclaves scattered across South India. There is, however, an enduring legacy of the Gallic rule. The first French governor Dupleix designed Pondicherry’s street plan, which still today consists of a central grid encircled by a broad oblong boulevard. Many streets still possess their Gallic names. Streets near the seafront are dotted with rows of houses that wouldn’t look out of place in Montpellier. This evening we visit Auroville and Sri Aurobindo Ashram.
