Itinerary

Day 1

Delhi

Sunday 05 November 2017. Welcome to India and the start of your holiday! Upon arrival you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel.
Overnight: Delhi

Day 2

The legendary Taj Mahal

Delhi - Agra. This morning we set out for Agra, home to the magnificent Taj Mahal. Upon arrival into Agra we check in to our hotel before heading over to the imposing Agra Fort late afternoon. This 16th century sandstone fortress was once home to Mughal rulers, and within its fortified walls you can still find evidence of the empire’s grandeur with a number of enchanting mosques and stunning palaces. From the Agra Fort we travel on to the Taj Mahal.

The Taj Mahal truly is one of the wonders of the world, and you will see it at its best - at sunset - just when the light, playing on the marble of the tomb and the reflections in the stillness of the waters, presents this incredible building in all its beauty, majesty and splendor. The Taj Mahal is a monument of love built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jehan in 1630 for his Queen Mumtaz Mahal to enshrine her mortal remains. After visiting the Taj we will enjoy a tasty welcome dinner at a speciality restaurant in Agra.
Overnight: Agra  |  Breakfast, Dinner

Day 3

Fatehpur Sikri

Agra - Jaipur. Spend the morning at leisure, with the option to return to the Taj Mahal at sunrise before we continue our journey to Jaipur. En route we visit the deserted Mughal city of Fatehpur Sikri which was built by Emperor Akbar in 1569. Thanks to the very durable red sandstone from which it was built, Fatehpur Sikri still remains well-preserved and is a fascinating place to explore. The behemoth complex is divided into four parts - the women's quarter, emperor's quarter, a quarter for princes and noblemen and weapons housing. Later we drive to Jaipur, the bustling capital of the state of Rajasthan. The rest of the day is free for you to spend at your own leisure.
Overnight: Jaipur  |  Breakfast

Day 4

The Pink City of Jaipur

We start the day with a jeep ride up to lofty Amber Fort. Once inside the sheer rock walls we explore palaces, gardens, temples and opulent private apartments that were once home to Mughal rulers. In the afternoon we enjoy a city tour of Jaipur. Here we will see the remains of the Hawa Mahal palace, visit the ancient Jantar Mantar observatory, and explore the vast City Palace, with its many courtyards, gardens and majestic buildings. There will also be the chance to browse several museums and art galleries.
Overnight: Jaipur  |  Breakfast

Days 5-6

Pushkar Camel Fair

Jaipur - Ajmer - Pushkar. Upon arrival to Ajmer, just 11 kilometres away from Pushkar, we embark on a sightseeing tour of the area with visits to the Muslim Sufi Saint Chisti Mausoleum, the town centre, college area and market place before driving north the Pushkar. Once a year the sleepy lakeside town of Pushkar erupts into a frenzy of activity, as hundreds of thousands of cattle traders, pilgrims, breeders, herdsmen, farmers and travellers descend upon the town for the annual Pushkar Camel Fair. Here you can witness the serious business of livestock trading as well as watch (or take part) in some fun activities, such as a game of tug of war, a cricket match, a competition for the longest moustache, and a camel beauty-pageant. There are also plenty of market stalls with local wares on sale, including bracelets, clothing, and fabrics.

As well as the colourful activities of the fairground this annual event also carries some religious significance. According to legend, while searching for a place to perform a fire sacrifice the Hindu god Brahma made Pushkar Lake appear out of thin air and as such on the day of a full moon during the fair thousands of pilgrims flock to the Ghats of the lake to bathe in its sacred waters. Our sightseeing on day 5 includes Pushkar Lake and Brahma Temple before we head over to the fair grounds in the afternoon. The following day enjoy free time to explore the delights of the Pushkar Camel Fair.
Overnight: Pushkar  |  Breakfast x 2, Lunch x 2, Dinner x 2

Day 7

Ajmer

Pushkar - Ajmer - Delhi. This morning offers free time before returning to Ajmer to take the Ajmer Shatabadi Express train to Delhi, arriving late in the evening.
Overnight: Delhi  |  Breakfast

Day 8

Delhi sightseeing - Old & New

Today embark on a full day sightseeing tour of city, kicking off in the hustle and bustle of Old Delhi. Here we will see the famous Red Fort, the towering minarets and marble domes of Jama Masjif – one of the oldest and most impressive mosques in the city, and government buildings. Later we head into New Delhi, with its wide boulevards, plentiful parks and majestic parliament buildings and palaces. View the lofty Qutab Minar tower, and the 16th century Humayun’s Tomb.

I had a fabulous time in India and it was MADE by our guide Harsh who was kind, responsive and resourceful. We experienced some real difficulties halfway tgrough the tour that were unforeseen--- the Indian government demonitised the currency so we were left a little high and dry. Harsh did his best to subtely tweak our itinerary in view of this and gave us additional options as there were a number of keen photographers on the trip.

It was well organised, no unwelcome surprises and the tourist bus was comfortable and well driven making for a relaxing trip (not the first thing that springs to mind when talking about India).

We enjoyed an excellent tour and On the Go Tours were exceptional value. All the arrangements went smoothly and our hotels were first class. Particularly the hotels in Agra and Pushkar who provided an excellent degree of comfort. Food in all venues was first class. I cannot speak highly enough of our tour guide Harsh who ensured that our trip was most enjoyable. He was very knowledgable and explained the history surrounding the places that we visited. He advised us on restaurants to eat in at night and on one occasion we could not find the restaurant and he came and found us and stayed with us until he was certain that we had a table. One of the group had purchased an expensive bracelet and a stone fell out but it was problem as our guide arranged for a courier to collect it and have it repaired. Nothing was too much trouble for Harsh. He turned a good tour into an exceptional tour.

Harsh our tour guide was very knowledgeable and went beyond his expected duties. He provided a lot of good advice in providing good quality restaurants at reasonable prices. He ensured that we were all looked after in all hotels we visited. We would highly recommend him as a capable, competent and professional tour guide. We enjoyed this trip very much and will be considering On The Go Tours in the future
