Founded in the 12th century, the Kardang Monastery houses a large, popular library with volumes of Buddhist scriptures whilst the 17th century Shashpur Monastery has a number of paintings depicting the history of 84 Buddhas.
Keylong also possesses a small museum with an interesting collection of traditional costumes, old dance masks and treasures collected from local gompas, a fortified monastery with its own university.
