Covering an area of little more than two sq km, this small town is situated near Nasik and draws hundreds of worshippers and followers of the noble sage Sai Baba throughout the year. The saint lived in Shirdi until his samadhi, a spiritual state of consciousness, in 1918. Sai Baba's shrine in Shirdi has been incorporated as one of the holy places in the world's map of pilgrimage and is Shirdi's top attraction. People travel from all over the country to glimpse Sai Baba's shrine. There are a number of other popular sites linked with the life of Sai Baba, including Gurusthan, a tree where the saint was first spotted meditating, Dwarakamayi - the mosque where Sai Baba resided for 60 years, and the Khandoba Raya Temple where Sai Baba was received as a saint.

Further afield, at a distance of 65km from Shirdi, is an interesting village hamlet. What makes this village particularly interesting is that none of the houses have doors - the villagers believe that their Lord Shaneshwara will protect them from all forms of evil, including robbery and theft.
