This desert resort is lucky enough to enjoy an average of 360 sunny days a year and boasts lots of fun and exciting things to do as well as some striking scenery. It is a summer haven for Israelis and in the winter is more frequented by Europeans who are desperately seeking a bit of sunshine and warmth.Read More
Being on the coast, there are lots of water sports on offer in Eilat, including jetskiing, scuba diving, snorkelling and even dolphin spotting tours. The Coral World park, to the south of the city, is especially popular as it is home to a splendid array of tropical fish and also has an Underwater Observatory, so that guests can see the marine life up close, and a Marine Museum, for educational purposes. For those opting to stay away from the water, there is a local winery you can visit as well as a bird park.
Eilat is a great base for exploring the surrounding areas and is perfect for a day trip to the Red Rose City of Petra in Jordan. The surrounding Eilat mountains are dotted with archaeological and historic sites as well as patches of unadulterated natural beauty that are well worth exploring. Hiking and trekking in the Uvda Valley is an excellent way to see this amazing landscape as you can observe various wonders such as the world’s oldest temple, the first semi-nomadic settlement and the magnificent Caravan Cliffs.
