In Brief

Venezia, Italy
2 hours
Important InfoInfo
Choose the departure time that best suits your schedule, and then make your own way to the Ospedale vaporetto (water bus) stop in central Venice.

Meet your local skipper-guide and board your beautiful Venetian boat, either a sampierotta which is use for 4 or less people (fishing boat) or a bragozzo (two-masted trawler), for groups of more than 5 people. Calmly drift away from the UNESCO-listed city and out onto the shimmering waters of the Venetian Lagoon to begin your panoramic boat ride around Venice and its picturesque islands.

Cruise across the lagoon’s still waters, gliding smoothly through St Mark's Basin toward the nearby island of Sant'Andrea. Be rewarded with stunning views of St Mark's Basilica as you pass through the basin, and admire Forte di Sant’Andrea, a statuesque, 16th-century fortress, when you reach Sant'Andrea. Then, take in the rural landscape of Vignole.

Continue along Venice Lido, a 6.8 mile-long (11 km) sandbar that is nestled between the Venetian Lagoon and the Adriatic Sea, toward the remote islands of San Lazzaro degli Armeni, San Servolo, San Clemente, Le Grazie, Giudecca, and San Giorgio Maggiore.

Sit back and relax as your skipper-guide pauses the boat in an idyllic spot between Giudecca and San Giorgio. Hear the pop of corks as your boat bobs lazily on the water. With half a bottle of Prosecco per person, sip on a glass of sparkling, Italian wine (or a soft drink, if you prefer) and savor the taste as you watch the sun begin to slip behind the horizon.

With your camera in hand, marvel at the brilliant reds, oranges and pinks that spill out across the sky, casting a warm glow over the lagoon and the nearby Salute Church and St Mark’s Square.

After the sun has set, savor the last of your Prosecco and hear tales about Venice’s rich history from your driver-guide as you return to the city by way of St Elena and the Arsenale.

Your tour then concludes back at the original departure point.

We met our guide/boat near the Fondamente Nove vaporetto stop, easy to find. The boat is open and small, only room for about 10 people, so guaranteed to be a small group. I cannot say enough about our captain/skipper Tommaso, personable, great information, quite a character really. The 2 hours of cruising in the canal went by too fast, we could've spent twice as long and not been ready to go yet. Seeing the main island of Venice from the water, and going past many other islands in the lagoon, something that must be experienced, a great way to see Venice, away from the crowds.

Our sunset cruise on a typical Venetian boat was a fantastic experience! Our guide, Tomasso was excellent. His historical knowledge of all the islands was delivered in both an informative and entertaining way. The weather was iffy the day of our cruise, with a thunderstorm in Venice that occurred at around 3pm. Tomasa was in contact via email several times that afternoon regarding the storm and to our delight informed us that the storm would pass and our cruise would happen as scheduled. The cruise took us to other islands and Tomasso’s knowledge of their history was amazing! We were able to see parts of Venice we would not have seen. It was a beautiful evening and something I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Venice. In fact, we recommended this excursion to other people we met while we were in Italy and told them when booking to ask for Tomasso if possible!

We had an amazing time. Our guide was very knowledgeable and helpful. Although the weather wasn’t ideal, we still had a great time and learned plenty about the area we never would have learned.

The best time to take this Cruise is the last sailing because it's when the sun begins to set, making all the sights one sees from the water look very attractive. Though everything was expertly set up for us by Il Bragozzo's kindly owner, Tommaso Serantoni, it was with Captain Jean Baptiste that we sailed into the vast Venetian waters. Jean Baptiste ensured that throughout most of the Tour we were shown unseen facets of Venice-lesser known areas of the city, islands that tourists would never know existed, a military boat yard, luxury hotels so exclusive, that unless you took this Cruise you would never know that they existed! With Jean Baptiste's commentary it felt as if we were being let in on and shown secrets in and around Venice that other tourists would not even know of. He made whatever he showed us so exciting, that we couldn't wait until he took us to the next marvel. We heard about victims of the plague, saw aboandoned settlemts, saw a University ensconed on an island and much more. The icing on the cake was the glorious views of Venice city, namely of Piazza San Marco and it's environs that we saw from the water bathed in the light of the setting sun. The boat used for the Tour is entirely open, plus it can't accommodate many people, so the entire experience of this Tour is vey intimate and immersive. Complimentary wine and soft drinks are served on board. However, if you're a teetotaller it's best to mention this at the time of making the booking because most times they may just only have a chilled bottle of wine on board and nothing else! At the end of the Tour, Jean Baptiste very kindly recommended restaurants and advised each group on how to find their way to their next destination from the boat drop off point. If there's one Cruise you do in Venice, let this be the one you choose. -Felicia Variava Albert, Managing Director, Blaze Tours and Travels Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai, India

This trip exceeded our expectations. Gian showed us corners of the Venetian Lagoon that we would never have seen. He gave us the rich history of the Serene Republic with true passion for the history. All of this while sipping Prosecco as the sun sank behind St Marks! Truly a Memorable trip.

A great way to see the islands. There were only the 3 of us in the group so a very small tour. Tommaso our guide and captain was brilliant and had so many suggestions for our visit, absolutely great! The timing seemed early at 4.30 but the lighting was beautiful and the whole experience so relaxing

in his traditional flat bottomed Venetian boat it has a motor but can also sail. The boat is about 40 years old but the design is over 300 years old. The lagoon is calm, the horizon a little hazy. I forgot that this was a tour of the lagoon and its other islands so we do not head down a canal into Venice. Instead, we head along the shore as Giamba guide talks about the ecosystem and how Venice developed in this lagoon which is only a few feet deep. It provided a natural fortress against the invading barbarians. Horses, the preferred transportation of the Huns, would simply get stuck in the mud. The two hour boat ride was great. We motor through some natural areas, we watch a huge sailing regatta returning to the harbor with spinnakers aloft, past the island of Lido where the money is today and back in towards Venice where we get the waterside view of St. Marks and the Doges Palace. We polish off a bottle of prosecco as Giamba tells us how much he loves Brusa Springsteen. A musician, he learned to play drums from Max Weinberg while sitting in his mothers arm chair. My wife complains about Donald Trump. Giamba tells us that Berlusconi was just as bad and lasted 17 years. We called this hope. The sun is setting as we return to our start, down a serene canal and past the Arsenal a huge shipyard and thank Giamba for his hospitality.

Incredible! A unique way to see Venice and some of the surrounding islands. Tomasso is a genuine Venetian and has a wealth of information that is hugely better than any regular tour or guidebook. He is a wonderful friendly guy who takes pride in his work and Venice itself. The Prosecco flows during the cruise and it really is a very special experience. We went to celebrate our silver wedding and it was a wonderful way to do it. Thanks Tomasso!

Tomasso was our guide for our sunset cruise. He was very knowledgeable of the area and had a great sense of humour. We went as a family of 6 and each and every one of us enjoyed the beautiful views and the time he spent explaining the areas we went to. We had 2 members in our group who have disabilities and he was great getting them on and off the boat safely. Highly recommend this tour. The sparkling local wine was also delicious.

Our tour was fantastic! There was so much more I learned about the Venice area by taking this cruise than if I would have stayed in Venice.

Excellent experience. Fun. Lovely chatting to the guide. We did this on the last evening so it was a perfect end to the trip.

This is definitely a trip to take. We saw Venice from a different view. Thomas, our guide was superb - as a born and bred Venetian - he was so knowledgeable, and taught us a lot about the Islands. it was so not your usual 'touristy' trip.

There were 5 of us in our party and Tomasso was simply amazing. There was a lot of information he provided that we would never have known otherwise. He also took us around the islands which was nice to see. This tour is a must do when you are in Venice. You sit back, relax, watch the beautiful views even though in late May/early June the sunset is not until after the tour ends, but don't let that stop you from going, sip on Prosecco and learn about the history of the islands and of Venice.

Highly recommend a relaxing afternoon cruise around the lagoon with Tomasso. He is very generous with his information about the various islands you cruise pass and also the prosecco!! If you also like taking photos, you get some amazing views of the famous landmarks around Venice and beautiful Venetian sunsets.

Take this tour! and skip the gondola......Tommaso was so helpful and friendly and the trip was so relaxing and beautiful. We thought this was an excellent value for our family of four. Excellent way to beat the summer crowds. We couldn't have asked for more! Thanks Tommaso and best wished to your family.

We had a private boat for the four of us and we had an amazing time! Half a bottle of Procecco and a tour hour cruise around Venice was such a pleasant experience. Would highly recommend for a nice relaxing tour before dinner. It really made our last day great!

Loved this tour! We had the ride all to ourselves, a guide who spoke very good English, and enjoyed learning more about Venice. This was a romantic way to start off our honeymoon in Venice. Definitely recommend doing this! We love small boats and had no problems, but the water can get a bit choppy when larger boats pass by. Even though our guide was also an excellent driver, I would reconsider if you get sea sick - or take some medicine first. This tour takes you around the outer portion of Venice, by Lido, and past the top of the Grand Canal. It's not a tour of the canals inside Venice. We also did a gondola tour, which is what you need to do to go down the small/inner canals. Do not be confused and think this is a gondola tour. We loved our ride and don't want anyone to book this thinking it's something else and come back with bad reviews. Highly recommend doing both!

My husband and I had a great time with Tomasso! He's fun, friendly and very knowledgeable about the area. We got lucky, too, in that we had him all to ourselves on a Monday in October. Even though it was just the two of us, he gave us a very full 2-hour tour. We learned a lot and shared a lot of laughs. Would very much recommend this tour as an unique way to view Venice.
