Get ready for the ultimate tajine experience on this one of a kind tour in Marrakech. From market to plate, you’ll learn how to whip up a tajine from scratch, using ingredients from the famous Marrakech souks. The best part of it all? You get to devour your tajine after you’ve made it!
We will start in Djemaa El-Fna, the centre of all the action in Marrakech before heading into the souks. Here your local host will teach you the Arabic words for all the ingredients you’ll need to cook your tasty tajine, giving you insider knowledge for your shopping experience.
The souks are the legendary markets where all the locals shop for food in Marrakech. Meats, vegetables, herbs, spices; the souks have all the freshest produce you’ll need for cooking Moroccan cuisine, and with your new Arabic skills you’ll be able to order exactly what you want from the locals. (And if not, the local vendors will be happy to teach you more food vocabulary!)
Now it’s time to get your cook on! During your hands-on cooking class the chef will be giving you step-by-step instructions about how the locals cook the perfect tajine. You’ll learn all about the key ingredients and spices needed to make it as authentic as possible, the perfect skill to take home from your Marrakech travel experience.
The class takes place in the beautiful setting of a traditional Moroccan riad (house), where you will meet the family and hear about medina life for a Marrakech family. Finally, it’s time to eat. You’ll get to savour the fruits of your labour and the food will taste even better as you’ve made it with your own two hands! Your local guide will then take you back to Djemaa El-Fna Square where the tour will finish. From here your guide can give you directions back to your hotel or you can continue to shop in Marrakech’s beautiful souks.
When you’re trying to decide what to do in Marrakech, make sure you don’t miss out on this epic tajine adventure, a truly authentic experience like no other in the city!
Note: All through Djemaa El-Fna there are fake guides who will try to convince you to do a tour with them. Please make sure you find the official guide, who will be holding an Urban Adventures sign or badge and will be waiting for you in front of the café.

Really excellent class. We spent an hour in the market and the rest of the time chopping, cooking and learning from the kind ladies who ran the class. The space was clean and the food was delicious! No complaints!!!

My husband and I love taking cooking classes so I booked this activity for fun. It was very enjoyable and we recommend it to anyone who likes to get their hands dirty (had to mix chicken pieces with different spices and chop vegetable) and learn new recipes. We even bought Tagine for the house but it mostly a decorative one. :)

The guide was late showing up which made me a touch nervous, but there were other people there waiting as well. She was fabulous and you have to wait until the butcher is open anyway. So, no worries. The experience was amazing: the people, the guides, the food!

We met at the market and went shopping for the ingredients and then went to a Riad to cook. It was very organized even though there were about 15 people in total. We had fun getting to know others and cooking a new dish!

Great experience for our family of three, including a 13-year-old child. Great guide, great venue, and delicious recipe / lunch. Highly recommend this experience.

Highly recommend taking cooking class in Marrakech especially from Karima under Urban Adventures. She provided a wonderful learning experience while purchasing fresh produce and poultry in the market and preparing/cooking the tangine Riad Thycas. We had a group of 10 people which was a good size for this class. For our group, we met at 0900 and left her Riad by 1400 well fed. We cooked chicken and vegetable tangine with lemon. I under estimated the veggie tangine but that was tasty and the first to be fully consumed. YUMMY. Word of warning, the poultry was 'fresh', 'very fresh'.

We met on time on the agreed spot and went directly to the market. Packed with all the fresh ingredients we walked to the place where we started the preparation. We were a great crowd from all over the world including Fatima and her colleague who showed us how to prepare and cook a real Moroccan tagine. I have never tasted such as delicious meal before and after I went to this great cooking class.

It was just two of us on the tour and Karima was a great guide. Started out with getting fresh ingredients including a poor chicken and then taking them to a Riad and cooking. It was a great experience and the tagine turned out really great.

We had a great tour with Fatima for three of us. It was amazing to see where our ingredients come from and how tasty food we can prepare under careful eye of our teacher. Would recommend to everyone.

Most delicious tagine in Morocco! The guide Sanaa is such a delightful, enthusiastic person. From the moment we met her, she was upbeat and eager to share her culture. Navigating the souks to pick the fresh ingredients is what sets this class apart--you get to talk to the local vendors and learn the names of the foods in Arabic--also great to see where your food is coming from. I would highly recommend this cooking class if you like Moroccan food and are interested in getting an inside view on how its prepared.

Great experience from getting food ingredients to learning to make a Chicken Tagine. The home we cooked in also had wifi. Even had a demonstration of how to prepare and pour mint tea.

Had such a great time with the cooking class!!! It ended up just being two of us with the instructor. You start by going through the Medina/market to get all fresh ingredients. Buying ingredients from the vendors is fun as they are happy to meet new people. You're asked ahead of time what you prefer to cook as well so there's options. Once we got to the Riad where we'd be prepping the meal Karima, our instructor, welcomes us with mint tea. From there we basically help prep the meal and she assists with the cooking of it. When we're ready to eat she has the table all set for you. Karima was truly the sweetest person and so fun to cook with!!! The day after the class I was running through the Medina to meet for another tour and I heard my name. Kind of surprised to hear two people yelling my name after only being in Marrakech for two days I was a bit confused. I look back and it was Karima and the gentleman from the produce stand. Both had huge smiles on their face as I turned back to say hello. That was the highlight of my day!

Fantastic morning shopping in the locals market then learning how to prepare and cook Tagine in a beautiful riad. Our host could not have been any better. We will remember this for a very long time

Very nice experience. First day in Marrakesh for us so waking around the souks shopping for the ingredient was an experience. Felt safe at all times and the final product (the tagine) was delicious. Totally recommended.

Great experience! Had a great time. Sara is great. She is very friendly, helpful, and knows how to make a great tangine. I definitely recommend this day trip. I felt it was a bit pricey when I book it, but it was probably the best day trip I booked for my trip. Well worth it.

Karima our host was lovely. We visited her local suppliers in the souks and sourced our ingredients and then she made us very welcome at her riad. It was a very hands on experience. We were shown how to make Moroccan tea, vege couscous, a Moroccan salad and two types of tagine. There were lots of laughs and it was very informal.

This was a fabulous tour and cookjng class. Sara was my delightful companion guide and teacher who was patient, caring, friendly, warm and an excellent ambassador for her country. We found the best places to buy fresh food and had an amazing eye opening tour through the souks. Sara and I did the cooking in a lovely kitchen in a riad and we spent a very relaxing and informative time cooking and eating our tagine. Sara has a natural ability to get along with people and to make them feel comfortable while encouraging me to prepare food the Marrocan way. I learnt so much from her but most importantly I take her warmth and hospitality home in my heart. A wonderful experience which I feel privileged to have had. Thank you, Sara.

The chicken tagine was one of our favorite dishes we had on our trip. We also had so much fun shopping like a local. So glad we did it!!

Loved this cooking experience. We went to buy fresh food from souks and when I say fresh; well the chicken saw me before we ate it. Chef taught all steps to make Morracan salad and learned to make Morracan chicken tangine. Had oranges with honey and cinnamon. Awesome time cooking with a great chef.

We really enjoyed this tour. I hate cooking but gave it to my friend as a gift. It was so much fun! Our guide took us to the Souq and explained everything we needed while we got a feeling for the real Morocco. The Tagine we made was the best we had on the whole holiday. I would recommend everyone to spend their morning on this tour!

Buying the ingredients for making a tagine was a great experience walking though the souk and watching our chef negotiate the purchase of vegetables and the fresh chicken alive until we bought it. Then back to a riad where the six of us were instructed in cutting and and preparing the tagine. Our instructor spoke excellent English and was able to improvise a request for a vegetarian tagine after we had finished shopping. The tagine took time to cook and while it did we prepared a warm Moroccan salad. The only criticism of the day is that the knives we used for preparing the tagine ingredients desperately need sharpening. Nice and different experience.
