Annapurna Trek

Annapurna Trekking

The 55km-long massif of Annapurna is a paradise for hikers and a naturalist's paradise. With some 14 peaks reaching over 7,000m in height, the mountain range and surrounding sub-alpine steppe is protected by the Annapurna Conservation Area where the elusive snow leopard resides. The region is also home to world-class treks with accessible routes, a diversity of picturesque scenery and a bounty of guest lodges. Add to this an array of lowland villages offering a unique look at Nepali culture and you have yourself a winning trekking destination.

We offer an easy-paced Annapurna trek, which combines a 5 night trek with R&R at Lake Pokhara, a safari in Chitwan National Park and sightseeing in Kathmandu.

Highlights of the Annapurna Trek

The town of Pokhara serves as the start and end point of our Annapurna trek into the hills and with its utterly gorgeous backdrop of snow-capped mountains reflected on the waters of Phewa Lake, it's a destination in its own right. The trek starts properly at Phedi from where you follow the course of the Modi Khola River to climb up to Syauli for a glimpse of Machhapuchre. Soak up the views of colourful forests, terraced fields and rugged skylines before reaching Ghandruk. Visit the Gurung Museum en route to Tadapani before heading to Ghorepani village, passing streams and waterfalls along the way. At Ghorepani you'll have the chance to meet the locals and learn about their role as Gurkha soldiers.

Perhaps the ultimate highlight is the trek to Poon Hill for sunrise. As the day's light gradually increases, a sea of mountain peaks is revealed bathed in warm hues, begging to be photographed and marvelled at. An old trading route brings you back to Pokhara where you can reminisce over your favourite sights with fellow trekkers over a well-deserved drink.

As well as the Annapurna trek, on our Annapurna Panorama tour you'll also visit Chitwan National Park, regarded by many as one of the finest game parks in Asia. Here you'll be able to take game drives in the hope of spotting rhino and elephant, go on nature walks or admire the scenery on a canoe ride down river.

Annapurna Sanctuary Treks

We can also operate a more demanding Annapurna Sanctuary trek for you upon request. The Annapurna Sanctuary is a natural and magnificent amphitheatre of Himalayan giants and tumbling glaciers. From many lodges, you can see the massive south face of Annapurna 1 (8091m), Annapurna III, Gangapurna, Annapurna South and Machhapuchhare. An Annapurna Sanctuary trek is more physically demanding and reaches a maximum altitude of 4130m.

Fitness for an Annapurna Trek

Our Annapurna trek requires a moderate/good level of fitness and is a great introduction to trekking in the Himalayas, for those who would like to experience trekking without undertaking one of the more strenuous routes such as the Annapurna Sanctuary or Annapurna Circuit. The maximum altitude on our Annapurna trek is 2990m and the average walking duration is 4 - 6 hours a day.
