We had so much fun on this tour!!! Our guide--Girl Mike--was fun and informative and had great energy! I am not very experienced or comfortable on a bike (have ridden one other time as an adult in Costa Rica) and was extremely nervous, especially riding in the city. You do have to be very alert and aware. If you have never ridden a bike this isn't the time to learn. If you are in very bad shape this might not be for you. I'm not going to lie--the first part where we were in the city was stressful for me. The rest of the group did just fine though and they were all very supportive. Once we got into the countryside it was just absolutely peaceful and beautiful! By the time we got back into the city I felt much more comfortable and didn't have any problems. The stop at the cheese farm is really interesting and we were able to pet some beautiful baby cows! The cheese was so yum and we each bought a wheel. Also checked off our windmill quota for the trip!
The ride was long but we went at an easy pace that everyone could keep up regardless of fitness level (I wouldn't have minded a little more speed when we were in wide open spaces but that is what happens with a group tour).
Overall I would definitely recommend this tour! It was an amazing way to spend half a day and a great opportunity to see some countryside without doing a full excursion. Plus experiencing Amsterdam like a local's perspective (aka from the seat of a bike) should be on everyone's list!”

The bicycle ride was amazing! I got to pet a cow and try some amazing cheese. I mean, what else can you ask for? This has it all! Loved the clog building workshop demonstration.”

Excellent! We were very well looked after, it was a thoughtful and informative tour, and we saw some uniquely Dutch things along the way. Full credit to Mike's bike shop and to our guide Mike (different person and gender!) for setting us up so well and providing a memorable day. It was fun all the way. Even a puncture in our party was dealt with efficiently and with good humour.
The bikes are very good quality and easy to master in terms of gear changes. We covered some decent mileage, but it's not a tough ride and everyone in our group easily coped.
The visit to the farm is certainly an experience....the farmer is a character! Any men in our party were safe in the knowledge that they wouldn't be dragged in for audience participation! This guy likes ladies, especially Asian ladies....but as our guide said to us in advance, he means well.
What I would say is that this was billed as a 2-hour tour, but in fact it lasted over 4 hours. That's not at all a complaint - it made it even better value for money. But it's worth knowing this in case people are trying to plan other parts of their day.
The tour detail also points out that the price doesn't include food and drinks. That's true. But it's worth pointing out that it is a good idea to bring your own water and snacks along.
You need to be a vaguely competent bike rider. We felt safe throughout, but as you cycle through and out of the city you need to have some decent road sense and not be wobbly on your bike.
Overall, an excellent experience....a lovely way to see Amsterdam and some of the surrounding countryside.”

Fun tour. Ivan was a funny and friendly guide. Lots of breaks along the way and beautiful views along the Amstel. Highly recommend it.”

This is a great tour to take and get away from the city. You ride on a trail alongside the river and see horses, cows and sheep. Our guide Ivan was great telling us about the history of Amsterdam and fun facts. We went to a farm where you taste cheese that is made there and the farmer has a great sense of humor and he gave a clog making demonstration. Ivan then took us to the oldest bar in Amsterdam for a cold beer this is a great tour and I highly recommend it when visiting Amsterdam”

Our tour was amazing. Our tour guide Pete was fun and informative. Once we got out of the city, the bike ride was relaxing and easy. The countryside is beautiful. It was a nice break from being in the city.
The gentleman demonstrating how to make cheese and clogs was hysterical. I would highly recommend this tour.”

This trip is well worth it and best if you are a reasonably skilled rider and in good enough shape to ride leisurely but steadily for 3 hours or so. Lots of history, current info and an up close and personal view of the city and nearby countryside.”

Really enjoyed getting away from the noise and crowds from Amsterdam and enjoyed the country side. The cheese farm was a great experience. And the cheese prices a real deal compared to the ridiculous prices in town. I figured cheese stores downtown Amsterdam were selling the same cheeses at 400 % the price than at the farm! Our guide was cool and cheerful and took time to explain and explore. And last but not least, we were incredibly lucky with the weather!!!”

We had a really fun time and enjoyed being out in the Dutch countryside. Our guide was female Mike who did a great job narrating and answering questions. It was good to get some exercise in on the trip.”

Our guide Patrick was great. They broke us into small groups which made it easier to get around in the city as well as out in the country. You definitely should plan to bring water bottles (they give you the opportunity to refill them) and pack a lunch as you will be out for 4 hours for sure. They give you the chance to sit and eat your lunches at the farm. The farmer definitely has a 'unique' sense of humor but they warn you about him. Overall, a great time and so much fun to be on the bikes!”

Can it get any better than getting exercise and learning about Amsterdam at the same time? Mateus, our guide , was extremely knowledgeable, charming and was very concerned about our safety and keeping our group together. We would recommend this group to all that enjoy biking while learning about the rich history of Amsterdam.”

Amazing time! It rained during our tour ponchos were provided- you would think this ruined the trip, but not at all. Our guide one of the Mikes had very amicable, he was full of insights, and very communicative about what the bike route was going to be. We kept a really steady pace and everyone in the group kept up nicely. We saw windmills, got a chance to try and buy cheese at the farm we stopped by, and we even visited a local biergarden they opened for our group! so it was really chill and got to buy snacks and try their brews. This tour was probably my favorite part of the trip.”

We did this bike tour with Patrick not Swayze : and it was so much fun! He gave us good background history information without boring us with too many facts and the country side we rode through was beautiful. It was a pretty leisurely ride and didnt take someone incredibly fit. The local farm was neat as well. We got to pet and feed the cows and the cheese was absolutely delicious!! Highly recommend.”

I would do this again. It was a fast pace and you will need to be assertive riding the bike in Amsterdam. The cheese farmer certainly loves little women. He was a character. The cheese and wooden shoe price was very reasonable. You should bring a lunch and bottled water with you. This is not a leisurely bike ride.”

We loved this and would definitely recommend it to other travellers to the city. Our guide Pete guided us through the city into the surrounding countryside with stops for sightseeing. The cheese tasting was immense!”

Mikes Bikes.....This was the most enjoyable day, we had a fantastic guide knowable but a lot of fun I thoroughly recommend this to all, we are over 70's and had the most fabulous day trip...go book it now you will have the best time !!!
There were about 40 riders but you are divided into groups of 10 each with their own guide, very comfortable riding NO hills in Holland !
Other than the Rijks Museum this was our favourite day.”

Please do yourself a favor and take this trip. This was the highlight of our whole trip. We had about 17 people on our tour. There were three separate tours that went out to the countryside. The people ranged from 25-65 and varying degrees of health. I would say if you can walk around a city for a day then you can probably do this tour as it's pretty flat. They took us through the city and then out to a windmill and onto the farm. The farmer is slightly odd but harmless. He hands out cheese to the ladies and makes fun of men. Slightly weird but I highly suggest getting something from him as it's the best souvenir that you'll have. The trip ended with another view of a windmill and a stop at a local biergarden. This will be a new tour next year from what they were saying. The craft beer was awesome with the view of the windmill is one I won't forget.
Our tour guide's name was Patrick and he was awesome. I can't say enough good things about Mike's Bike Tours and this particular tour. We did the city tour the next day too just because we had so much fun on this tour! The city tour is great but if you can only do one - do the countryside tour!.
