Itinerary

Day 1

St Petersburg

Saturday. Welcome to St Petersburg and the start of your long weekend! Upon arrival you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel for check-in. This evening you'll be treated to dinner with the rest of your group at the hotel, followed by an informative welcome meeting. Remainder of the evening at leisure - your tour guide can recommend some local bars for you to try out.
Overnight: St Petersburg  |  Dinner

Day 2

Hermitage Museum

This morning a driving tour will give us an introduction to St Petersburg. We will make our way along the famed Nevsky Prospekt, past the museum and university districts and a few photo stops will be made along the way at places such as the magnificent St Isaac's Cathedral and The Bronze Horseman. Later, we will enjoy a guided tour of the Hermitage Museum in the Winter Palace - which houses one of the biggest and best art collections on earth. The rest of the day is free for you to further explore. Most of the city sights are dotted along and just off the main thoroughfare - Nevsky Prospekt. It’s an easy city to find your bearings and get around. St Petersburg has a spirited restaurant, bar and jazz club scene, plus some of Russia’s best beers.

During our time in St Petersburg there may be the chance to join optional evening excursions such as a canal cruise (May to September), a traditional Cossacks performance or a night at the Russian Ballet. All optional excursions are subject to availability, and are booked and payable locally.
Overnight: St Petersburg  |  Breakfast

Day 3

St Pete's sightseeing

We start today's touring with a visit to Peter & Paul Fortress and the Peter & Paul Cathedral, which houses the tombs of many tsars including the Romanov monarchs. Then we'll head out of the city to explore the beautiful gardens of Peterhof on the Gulf of Finland in the summer or visit Catherine Palace at Tsarskoe Selo in winter (or Pavlosk Palace if Catherine Palace is closed).

Often referred to as Russia’s ‘Versailles’, the gardens of Peterhof are a wonderland of greenery and flowers, sweeping vistas and ornate architectural decorations, with spectacular gold fountains. At Catherine Palace its the exterior and the interiors of this lavishly decorated building that really catch the eye - and the lavish Amber room is a real highlight! After stopping for a hearty traditional lunch at a local restaurant, we'll continue on for a guided tour of the exquisite interior of The Church on Spilled Blood.
Overnight: St Petersburg  |  Breakfast, Lunch

Day 4

St Petersburg

Tuesday. Today gives the opportunity to shop for some last minute souvenirs, or time to take a leisurely walk around the city. Our city stay concludes after breakfast and hotel check-out.

The tour was excellent. We were met at the airport with no dramas. Our hotel was great and our guide was excellent. Next time we would do a longer tour and possibly allow an extra day at the end to revisit some of the places we would have liked more time at. As a short break it was excellent and an amazing amount was fitted in to a short time. An excellent introduction to Russia. As St Petersburg is a very European city, I wouldn't say it gave us a feel for the country but that was not to be expected.

Thank you for the priceless memories. I'm very glad we did this tour at the start of our Russia trip as we now have a better understanding of your beautiful country and our holiday will be better. Our guide dedicated all her time to us, to enrich our experience and I really loved how we used the metro and trolleys as we would not have done this on our own.
